I thought Joe Namath went to Alabama  ???

He did but I think what Bytor is trying to say, is that when Schnelly was at 'Bama he was sent by Bear Bryant to recruit the drunk known as Joe Namath. I think he was watching some show about Howard not just about him and his time at the U

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

The story that I know is that Bear told HS to get up to Pennslyvania to recruit Namath from the grip of Penn St and to not come back without him (perhaps this was after the Maryland thing). Howard tells this great story about how he went up there, got Joe Namath to agree to come back with him to Alabama and he (HS) only had a return train ticket for the two of them and 10c in his pocket. He offered to take Joe to breakfast and thankfully he only wanted a cup of coffee because he wasn't gonna be able to afford anything else anyway!

Sorry, about the Kentucky reference about Namath.. I did mean Alabama.  The cup of Joe hadn't kick-in yet  :-[

About Penn St…wasn't mentioned, just that Maryland had call Bryant to see if they would be interested in him & make sure certain schools did not get him.

The funny thing about me having made a referencing to Kentucky instead of Alabama…during lunch (after a crazy morning) for some reason, I thought I might have mis-spelled Joe Namath's…Now I know it wasn't the spelling after all that screwed-up on  :-[

Family and friends were in town for my graduation so I didn't get to see a lot of it. The part that we did see (with no volume because we were at a bar on the River Walk) was Schnellenberger talking. He was reppin' the FAU shirt! And the stump in the back… nice touch!

Re: Schnellenberger to Appear In ESPN's "The U"

I found it very well done. They spent about 30 minutes on Coach and I felt they gave him major respect. And not just for football, they showed the problems and major social issues Miami was going through in the 80's. Very, very tough and sad times. Even though I was living in Broward at the time…I remember. Coach Schnellenberger and his national championship Miami team, in many ways, helped Miami heal. Not just because they won, but because they won with a mix of local talent. They showed this very effectively.
