He speaks!!!

Question from David ?92

I've watched you coach for over 30 years and I admire you greatly. How many more years would you like to coach, and do you think you can break the top 10 before you hang up the whistle?

Response from Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger
My goal as far as coaching at Florida Atlantic is to stay as long as I move the team forward and God continues to give me good health.

Obviously, we continue to strive to be the best team in America. Obviously, that is a lofty goal. We will continue to work for that goal as long as I?m here.

I love Coach, but that really is no answer. The blog is a bit disappointing, IMO.

You are right. He didn't really say anything.

The biggest thing is that he will stay as long as he "moves the team forward." I would imagine that a stadium in the near future is a necesity as well as some winning seasons.

This is cool. Now we can ask all those unanswered questions about the football program from "The Man"

We have seen 3 questions answered since April 17. I have a feeling there have been a few more questions asked than answered. I don't get it. Why announce a blog and then not answer questions that are asked?

I do not want to hear one response of: it's not football season so don't expect much.

FAU…get in the game!

Coach Walters has been keeping up his blog all through the off season. No excuse.

You think Schnelly wanted to do a blog? He's 73 years old. I guarantee he's not sitting around on his couch with his iPod and his laptop searching the internet in hopes of answering questions about his blog entries (or lack there of). Do you see Joe Paterno blogging? How about Bobby Bowden? Yes I know he's posted on this board, but it definitely wasn't because he frequents this site.

I know we're all hungry for information, but please, give Howard a break on this one.

It's obvious he doesn't want to blog. I don't blame him at all.

My point to FAU is: don't set up a blog and announce it like it is some special event, and then not answer questions.

I will give Howard every break in the world. It's not him.

I'm not sure. Howard has always been there to promote football and FAU.

It sounds to me like he is skeptical now because it is so hard to get things done, student apathy, budget constraints, the time line for the stadium and no dome. He sounded more optimistic a few years ago.

If the stadium isn't going to be finished in 2010, I think he'll walk.

It's hard not to be disappointed when FIU and UCF have shovels in the ground and we're waiting on August just to "get a timeline."

I'm not optimistic anymore. The Wellness Center was supposed to start construction February. Now it's starting in October. The new Glades signs were supposed to be done months ago. They're working on them now. etc

We can't be any better of a football team than this without a big new stadium on-campus to attract better recruits and fans.

I believe he thought very carefully about what he was going to write . If anything impeads his progress, like taking forever to build the stadium, that is reason to leave. Without the proper things in place, like a stadium, it would not be possible to move the team forward. I think we are only a year or two away from peaking with what we have in place now. After that, no real growth without a college stadium on campus.

I know Louisville didn't have a stadium on campus when Howard was there but they had the use of a larger, much closer stadium. UM had the Orange Bowl, which they still use.
FAU uses a small rundown municiple stadium built for high school teams, in another county. Before that it was 2 counties away at Joe Robbie.

Why are there so many delays with so many projects at FAU. If these things were postponed in a large business, someone would lose their job.
