I like the Owls…but I also like The Blue Wave. "Florida Atlantic Blue Wave", it just has a nice ring to it. It has history, not like it's never been used before. So I ask, why can't we have both? That other school down south (the real one that is) has a team name, "The Hurricanes"…While there mascot is, "Sebastian the Ibis". Yes, another bird. As long as their is deep meaning in both names, we could use them. Having said this, I still like saying……Go Owls!

I'm with the combo option as well! We can absolutely have both.

How many times have you had to explain why our team is called the Owls? I know I have had to do it a ton. And not that I particularly care about what other people say but it sucks to argue with people who think your mascot is lame. Send this thread to Terry Mohajir!

Hearing everyone's point, I'm starting to think using both might just be okay.

After looking at Ricks pictures of the new recreation facility I now think it would be CRAZY to change "Officially" to the Blue Wave. The Owl logo has been incorporated into everything and it looks great.

Someone posted on Teds blog about the "FANS" becomeing the Blue Wave and rocking the stadium.

I can get behind that. A big blue wave of fans crushing down on the opponents. Everyone dressed in blue and shouting. Someone even mentioned having a sound effect of a wave crashing instead of a Owl hooting.

I say lets go for that.

Sell the "Blue Wave" to everybody in different parts of the country.  I dont think the name itself is going to sell anybody…I think the name will help get the fact that we are 1/2 mile from the beach recognized nationally.

My main point is this…most people in the country have never heard of FAU and if they have they dont know where it is in relation to the ocean.  Second, being 1/2 mile from the ocean is the ONE thing we have over schools like UF and FSU…market the hell out of it…go all in.

In any case, while the fans are passionate about this debate, FAU doesn't have the $$$ to re-brand anything. So the Owls we shall remain.

Changing from the Owls seems like a marketing cop-out. I'm sorry, but that is how I feel. In the era of super-conferences where every big program has their own tv network, we need to hang on to those aspects of our identity that make us unique and counter to the "big boys". We can sell ourselves to potential recruits as the "up-and-comer", "the lunch pailers". These fit with our school's origins as a commuter school that is growing into its own, and a football program that is prepared to "dig in" for the long haul to make the program a success. Burrowing Owls are scrappy and tenacious survivors, and I believe we need to hang on to that mentality for our school's continued success, and the success of our athletic programs. I have no problem incorporating the Blue wave, and clearly it is very meaningful for the tradition of our other programs (baseball etc.). But c'mon, we should be Owls first and always.

not far fetched at all we could call the student section the blue wave it would make sense imo
