The fact that they don't have the money for a band has nothing to do with FAU's band and I am VERY certain they would NOT do the same for FAU if the roles were reversed. This is just stupid and a waste of time.
But.. I did like the GOT BAND? shirts. ;D

If FIU's starting QB goes down with a career ending injury prior to the FAU game do we sit Rusty as a sign of respect??? Of course not.

If I remember correctly you are a spirit group for FAU, this was brought up when the lack of funds became an issue and the band could not travel the MCB game. FAU has dealt with this issue on several occasions and opposing team bands (in the early years) preformed just the same.
Other things can be done to show respect, you could put on of those PINK ribbons things on to show respect or something else that people or organization (groups) do to show respect. Or for that matter, dedicate a song from your Half-time show, not preforming - not an option.

I would assume if FIU doesn't have a band next year they will invite high schools to come play but that isn't the same as having your fight song played by the people who truly care about it.

There are other things the band could do to show respect, not going to the game and preforming (stands & half-time show) is not one of them.
The thing is, when a visiting band comes into town they don't get the say of if they march halftime. Thats up to the home team's athletics and band. FAU/FIU have been close and friendly over the years. In the past two Miami/FSU games in south Florida the FSU's band hasn't been allowed to march due to 'last minute' changes from athletics.
The other point is that at a regular game the home band is usually given about 7 minutes to preform from athletics. When another band is visiting the home band chooses to split that time giving each school about 3 and a half minutes. So if there's no band to give us time when we're at FIU, their athletics might just fill the halftime with promotions and what not.
I think we are all blowing this up because we have nothing better to do. If so I have a suggestion for another topic: How come the rivalry game isn't on Thanksgiving Weekend like it is traditionally?

You are so right about the half time show, I know in the early years of the program, we did do a lot of promotion stuff at the half ( a high school band on a few occasions did have a chance to preform), so in reality it's not that big of a deal - you could always invite some of the former (if they disband) band members from FIU to preform with you guys since you say you guys are close.
