Panthers lose their QB recruit
QB Brett Sheehan decommits from FIU - Football Recruiting - Southeast Region Blog - ESPN
ALSO, great timing by Pete Garcia, they had a recruit on campus today. Mario gets canned and an hour later the kid shows up…everyone left wondering what to do with him.
That is awesome. Perfect timing.
Quick someone let Coach Pelini know and maybe we can show the kid our campus and stadium and all that. Let's steal him under FIU's nose.Rick said

So…….
What no one has discussed is "where will Cristobal end up"?
Anyone care to take a stab at that one??
I'm thinking a position coach would be the likely next stop - as the head coaching gig did not show ability to be a coordinator.
I doubt he gets any looks as a head coach this year. As much as people question his firing, his record as a head coach is 27-47. Pretty bad.
USF in some capacity is a very likely option.
I could also see Schiano and Tampa Bay bringing him on in some capacity so that he has a year or two of experience in the NFL and then heads back to college and tries to land a big job.
Nobody seems to have an interest in the Tennessee job. When somebody does land there, maybe they add Cristy as a recruiting coordinator or OL coach.

Maybe he's not a great head coach but I think what he did at FIU was impressive. He'll get another shot somewhere in the future, even if he has to be coordinator for a few seasons at a bigger school. I'd offer him a job at FAU, have him recruit Miami-Dade
My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Can't really go by his record at FIU. His first few years he was trying to build a foundation and reverse everything Don Strock did so there was going to be a lot of losing. They were still a new program, losses were going to surmount. It's what he accomplished in his time there as a 1st time head coach and recruiting a guy like T.Y. Hilton that should be looked at.

Sure, I understand that he took on a bad program. However, get rid of his best and his worst and he was average at best.
He went, 1-11, 5-7, 3-9, 7-6, 8-5, 3-9. I think he deserved another year, but I do not see his firing as completely outrageous.
I like this quote from ex-Purdue coach Joe Tiller in a recent NY Times article “I’m amazed Florida International and midmajors, they act like they’re big timers — and they’re not,” said Joe Tiller, a former Purdue coach. “They might have a nice little program going someplace, but they’re not amongst the heavyweights.”

If it was the record I could understand that, but you fired a guy who took you two bowl games in the seasons prior to this year. AD Garcia comments saying they been going backwards for the last year and half doesnt make any sense because you lost to a talented Marshall team. This was a personal firing because Garcia had issues with Cristobal.

I know a lot of coaches here were not too fond of Angelos. Especially Rex, that was one of his major factors for leaving. I think the president of the school should take a look at Garcia and determine whether he is the right person for that job. Hired Isiah Thomas which was a disaster and the team was probably worse under him than the previous coach and now he fires Cristobal.

I agree with USMC.

I do not agree with the firing. It just seems that college football is getting so cut-throat that most coaches better expect to have results in short time and keep them going or they will be gone. Look at Gene Chizik, from National Championship to fired in a hurry.
Long-term tenure in college football is a rarity. Unfortunately not everybody can win and winning consistently is even harder.

If they fired Cristobal without a plan in place, then this was really stupid.

I now think a splash hire is out of the question now, up n comer it is. Eddie Gran was mentioned on their board, he was my favorite for the FAU job last year. They might actually improve their recruiting wth that hire and thats hard to do.
