Unless ESPN.com has it wrong Rusty currently has 2,731 yds.  He only needs 272 to tie Jared Allen, he'll do it, I would't be surprised if he breaks it against FIU.

but i dont think rusty will get drafted either…..Jared was a walk on for the practice squad in tampa….i think rusty and grothe will have the same outcome.

although i think smith will have more of a possibility in the nfl……and i could really see grothe in the arena league…..infact it wouldnt shock me if the Storm sign him.

At this point it's too early to say anything about Rusty he's only a Sophomore but the kid has 21 TD's this season if he has over 30 his finals 2 years who knows but it's too early to be talking about draft for Rusty.

You're right he's not a poor mans Tebow, Tebow has a good arm  ;D

According to FAUSports.com he has 2,731 as well. He should definitely break this against FIU…. What is the school record for TD passes in a season? Can Rusty beat that too?

When it comes to NFL and drafting, they look a lot to technique as much as skill.  As you've noticed Rusty Smith has an awkward delivery so that's definitely a knock on him.

Vince Young doesn't have a great delivery either… so it could happen… if Rusty wins the Heismann too  ;D

Rusty is a very different QB than Jared Allen. Some things to remember. 1) Rusty has consistently played against far better competition than Allen. Allen was pretty much a 1-AA QB for 3 of his 4 years. 2) Rusty has better size than Allen. 3) Even though Rusty has an odd release, he has a stronger arm than Allen. 4) FAU is a more prominent program than when Allen was an Owl.

All of these things will have an impact on whether or not Rusty gets drafted. If he continues to improve the way he has from last year to this year he will definitely get a long look by some NFL teams. Write it down now.

at our stage in development, we were fortunate to have Allen…he helped us take it to the next level…

he walked away from an offer to attend OU…he wanted to start, and to be the number 1 guy - OU showed interest in him as a back up initially…no promises…

thats where the marraige occurred with he and Howard…he could come in, and play right away…

Of course, and he was a great fit for FAU. I have nothing but respect for what he did for FAU. He was one of the pillars of the program.

However, if we are comparing Allen and Smith I like Smith's chances to go to the next level more than Allen's chances.

The flip side is that if the game is on the line I will take Allen and his ability to get it done in the crunch.

One thing I am certain of is that both will go down in history as two of FAU's best QBs.

The great thing about Rusty is how far he has come from last year. I remember when people thought he was a complete chump and now everyone thinks he is a stud. Imagine what another two years of development will do for this kids game.

I was thinking the same thing, that's another reason why we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously on this board.  If anyone listened to the board last year at the beginning Rusty would have been tarred and feathered.  Goes to show Howard and the coaches know alot more than we do.  Doesn't mean we can't criticize occasionally though.
