Smith and Harmon to Play in All-Star Game

Offensive Duo to Join Schnellenberger at the Texas vs. the Nation Game

Florida Atlantic University quarterback Rusty Smith and tight end Jason Harmon have been invited to participate in the 2010 Texas vs. the Nation Game.

The duo will join FAU Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger, who coached the 2009 Nation Team to a victory and saw FAU linebacker Frantz Joseph earn Defensive MVP honors.

Events are scheduled to begin Sunday, January 31 and will culminate at 2 p.m. EST at the Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.

Ninety-three percent of the 2009 squad signed an NFL contract (111-119). Smith and Harmon become the sixth and seventh players to participate in an all-star game since the program’s inception in 2001. Harmon and Smith will join Jared Allen as the three offensive FAU players to conclude their collegiate playing career in an all-star game.

Re: Smith and Harmon to Play in All-Star Game

I visited Texas vs. the Nation website and they list Harmon as a FB/TE.

They already have two other TEs listed and one other FB. So I suspect Harmon will be used as a FB during one half of the game, and probably not as a TE.

Interesting that Harmon is listed at FB. When doing a google search to find out where he's ranked for the draft he's not listed as TE but rather as a FB. In fact Wiilie Rose was barely better on these websites than Jason Harmon.

Could it be NFL scouts think he translates more into a FB than a TE?

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Smith and Harmon to Play in All-Star Game

the kid has talent regardless of how he gets on the field for sundays, he should be there.  I can see him as sort-a the utility player.  He can come in and play special teams, run the ball out of the backfield, catch out of the backfield, and line up as a TE or 3rd WR.

I think he is worth a risk around the 5th round…

The thing is that he needs to add 20-25lbs to play FB. If he does that he will be big enough to play TE. I don't think his athleticism can be questioned, but there are a whole lot of really athletic guys from big time programs that don't make the NFL. It is a real long shot, but I hope he gets an opportunity.

I just read Coach Schnellenberger's twitter. Bernie Kosar is on his coaching staff for the game.

Interesting…rebuilding that connection so he can come down to FAU perhaps?

Pretty sure he lives in south Florida. Saw him in WPB about a year ago.
