Question is, could we afford the guy if he even has interest.  Craig was making $192,000/yr.  That's not an alluring salary for an AD.  This may also be a reason why the job is still vacant.

So you're saying the ~60 applications were from people who did absolutely no research on what they might get paid here?

Re: SMU Fires AD

Up it to $250K and get a decent, even quality AD! And talk to the man, he may just be interested in the challange! UCF and SMU were both challanges when he signed on at both!

I question the quality of the candidate we get at that salary level.  It will be someone who has never had experience as an AD or is coming up from a smaller school where he was an AD (I wouldn't mind seeing an FCS AD move up and come to FAU - experience is king).

60 apps?  If someone was that exceptional, they make the hire already.

If he's such an attractive prospect than why was he fired?

Who knows, but he's been a successful AD at 2 schools that are now both at a level we'd like to be at.  I think that's at least worth an interview.

Agreed. Let's be honest here, were not the most attractive girl at the dance right now.

Neither is he!

I brought it up as a crazy thought, but he did turn around two schools who athletic departments and lets be fair, were relatively down in the dumps. But still the chances of us landing Orsini are the chances of me hitting the Powerball.

Maybe not, but I'd still at least interview the guy.  We are looking for someone to do exactly what he did at UCF and SMU (get facilities upgraded and get into a better conference) so why not talk to him?

Re: SMU Fires AD

Its obvious he knows how to run and andvance a program.

Now the question is "Why was he terminated after this success?"

Personal issues? Non-Job related trouble?

You dont turn around and fire someone who you just extended last year after they get you into a AQ confrence without some reason.

I'd be ok with hiring him as long as the due diligience is done on the background check.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.
