The point of firing is to stir things up. We never fire anyone in mid-season because we can't afford to go get another coach and everyone knows it so we have a very complacent coaching staff. Fire Jackson and promote Brohm. He can do both jobs and save us money. If we think he cannot do it, then fire him instead. Make a statement. No it will not change the outcome of our season, it never does. But make a statement that status quo is not good and that every job and every coach can be replaced. It will be a good motivator.
I don't think fear is a particuarly good motivator. I think you replace someone when a better option is available. Right now, bringing someone in mid-season or just bumping someone else from the staff up doesn't seem like it would accomplish much. I'm all for change, but it has to be the right change and it has to make sense.
This may make a lot of sense. Jackson has never been an OC, and Brohm has. Why did we bring Brohm in to begin with? For this exact scenario for the future. Brohm was OC at Louisville. You think his career path is to be QB coach at FAU? Nope. Fear is a great motivator. I like Jackson as a person and am not saying this is the solution. I am saying this is an example of a solution. I am not in the trenches to hear and see how the coaching is going. I will say, we need a change. Tomorrow. Monday at the latest.

Well we have 7 SBC games left and we need to win them all. I'd love to say we will, but unless this team can find some sort of identity on offense and the defense grows a backbone, we are in trouble this year. Now we have a BYE week. My guess is that it won't be a fun time for our players.
Well, they didn't exactly sign up for a 5 year party on the lido deck. What's going to happen is that the players are going to feel bad, the coaches are going to tell them what's wrong, they'll practice hard for a day or two and then we'll go right back to being a bad team. Because that's what we are. A bad team.
We didn't deserve to win this game and we didn't. Twelve penalties? How many of them are accidental? And you'd think that an offense would be super careful when it has only 2-4 minutes to drive 90 yards and put points on the board, yet they're making mistakes. Guys who have been playing college football for four years making stupid mistakes like false start or holding. So I feel for Rusty, he's only human… you've already got pressure on him with this One Last Drive situation and only 2 minutes with a team that can only be counted on ~50% to convert for a first down, then you're punishing him with 5,10,15 yards backwards. Second and 25 from the 45 and oh by the way, we haven't been catching well. It's way too difficult. No wonder we can't rally back. We would not only be 2-2 but also putting up 35-42 points a game if we didn't kill ourselves on these drives.
FAU will not win a single game this year unless they figure out how to:
1) Stop the 5 yard pass over the middle. Most of the drives against us are little piddly passes. Our guys are not there to stop them. I don't know who is supposed to be there but they're not doing their job. They should be batting it down or intercepting it, not tackling the guy after he's made the catch and moved the chains for the 100th time.
2) Recognize that if a QB sneaks up the side for almost 10 yards, he's probably going to do it again. So stop him the second time so he doesn't do it anymore.
3) Run Morris up through the middle when it hasn't worked the first ten times. I hate this about our running game. They keep running the same play over and over when it doesn't work. He got way more yards around the side. Why are you running it up the middle? Our O-line can't open up the hole. Stop it. You're wasting valuable downs.
4) Tell Tavious Polo that every single time, and I mean every single time he stops to change directions on a punt return, he slows down enough to be tackled. Continue the momentum. Don't change directions. Keep going. Stop netting us 15 yard returns.
5) Let VanCamp run the ball half the time. He can take the beating. Tuck it in and run.
That's about all I can say right now. I'm tired of watching these guys play like a poorly-conditioned high school team. They're not effective as a unit. Don't even talk about bowls or NFL. They'll be lucky to emerge 0.500.
They'll also be lucky if anyone shows up for Homecoming.

The beatings will continue until morale improves!
Jackson has been an OC for 4 games, you can't fire him yet give the guy a break. I hope he's got some tricks up his sleeve because we haven't shown much on the offensive side of the ball, play calling wise. He better start improving quick or his career at OC will only be a year. We all know why Brohm was brought in (albeit late, which is why he isn't our OC) he wants to be a head coach somewhere, and a guy like that with little experience isn't going to get a shot at a big program just yet. He's in the wings when Howard retires. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as the OC next year, but if you don't want to lose Jackson for future (which I don't think we do, no one has ever complained about our WR coach in the past) then you let the guy run his time out as OC this season.

The real problem is the defense. If adjustments need to be made in terms of coaching I think the defensive coaches need to be under the microscope.

I agree. Until the defensive staff can produce an effective game plan and get the players to stick to it, we should expect more losses. Frankly, I also was very disappointed by the defensive coordinator's screaming rant at the winning coach after the game. Considering the effectiveness of his calls (coudn't stop Wyoming consistently, especially the final drive), if he wanted to scream obscenities (so said witnesses) at someone, he should have stood in front of the mirror.
Exactly. I think he has enough to be concerned about before he starts screaming at another team.
