South Carolina Tailgating/ bar info

I'm sure the players and the prowlers will stay somewhere nicer but the Dirty's and the Delts (Delta Tau Delta) are staying at the Rodeway Inn. If you want to have a great time even before or after the game, my suggestion would be stay at the Rodeway Inn.

I'm not sure if the prOWLers are going as an organized student group, Jab. We did in 2006 and it was fantastic.

That's too bad, I guess with money being an issue for everyone right now I can understand that. I know they were in Texas last year, as were you. We all had a great time. Especially at the Dizzy Rooster lol

Re: South Carolina Tailgating/ bar info

Does anyone know where the football team is staying. I can't remember the ladies name, but if anybody knows her name or the contact who makes reservations for the fans to stay at the hotel with the team, please let me know. I think I'm a little to old to be staying at the Rodeway Inn with the nightlifers. If I did, it may cause some marital problems.  HootyHoot!!!

Haha it's all good Hooty. You can call the FAU ticket office and ask them.

you can probably talk to whoever answers the phone and tell them you're trying to make a reservation for South Carolina and you're wondering where the team is staying

I think you're looking for Christine Flood, she's the tix operations person, though I don't know if she'll be making reservations for you unless there is a trip package being put together so you'll probably just get the heads up on where the team hotel is.

@Yancy- can you give any good recommendations for grub on Friday night? I'll be staying in downtown as well and would love to check out a "must see" in SC. Any famous BBQ joints or anything like that? Where do the politicians eat?

Re: South Carolina Tailgating/ bar info

The Thread the owlcountry40 posted has at LEAST 5 different BBQ joints on it.

Its quite entertaining, as they started argueing amongst themselves about which BBQ joint is the "must" see.

Its obvious that South Carolina takes its BBQ VERY seriously.

Re: South Carolina Tailgating/ bar info

Don't get me started on BBQ!   There must be a law against good Q here in Florida.  All we have is that nasty Sonny's stuff on every corner.  Yuck!  The most famous BBQ joint in Columbia is Maurice's.  He is famous for flying the Confederate flag.  His bottle sauce was removed from chain stores because of his racist labels.  His BBQ is OK but I do not go there because of his racist agenda.  Now the flat out best BBQ in town is at Little Pigs.  It is a traditional SC BBQ buffet.  You pay on the way in.  It is $8.85 for regular peeps and $7.75 for old farts like me.  That's it.  That is all you can eat drink (tea, soda, lemonade, etc) included.  They have all three kinds of pulled pork: mustard (a SC favorite), tomato, and my favorite, vinegar.  There will be SC BBQ hash too.  Usually there will be a separate station with a whole pig or a mess of ribs or some such.  There is a fish fry.  Tons of veggies ranging from fried okra to collards to slaw.  When you go to Little Pigs you go hungry.   You never leave that way though.

I like to hit the Pig early and then to head to 5 Points or the Vista for the party.  Why pay big bucks for lesser food?  Get the best of both!  Her is the link to Little Pigs with a map.  It is just up I-77 a bit.  World Famous Little Pigs Barbecue

Re: South Carolina Tailgating/ bar info

The best BBQ I've had in Florida … and probably ever (that includes the Texas BBQ I eat once a week here in Texas) is actually by a catering company called Chain Gang BBQ. OUTSTANDING! Owlumni and Teambeer… you agree?

I should be making this trip also.  A buddy of mine lives in Ladson, just west of Charleston.  It has the makings of a great weekend.  Is the rodeway where everyone is staying?

Rodeway Inn (SC266)
1301 Main Street , Columbia, SC, US, 29201
Phone: (803) 779-7790

$54/night

give em a call. I don't know if the price has gone up or not. I booked this reservation December 21st so almost 8 months ago

Thanks Jab.  I may have a wedding to go to that weekend now, but I will know this weekend.  If I can make it up to the game, I will definetly be staying up there at the "el palace de rodeway" with you guys.  I'll keep an eye out for the drunken birds. ;D.    If you guys get a chance, definetly head over to Charleston, that is a cool town.  Lots of cool history there, and lots of microbreweries too.

And to stir the pot even more, SC BBQ is not even as good as NC BBQ! ;D

Which state has the sweet sauce?

I think its NC but not sure.

Good thing is there appears to be a plethora of knowledgeable BBQ experts on this thread.

Oh and the Best BBQ in Boca or S. Florida IMHO.

TOMS!
