Spring Practice almost here! Questions

Haven't heard about Ferguson coming back. My fear is that if he did go out west to school, he'll probably stay wherever he went to JUCO.
They do it all the time. Very rarely do they return to Fla for the remaining year or two.

As for the RB's? We all want to see who emerges from the pack as top back.

Spring Practice almost here! Questions

McKinson is still at FAU. He has all intention for competing for the starting QB spot. Transferring or switching positions is not his option.
Should be an interesting Spring at QB for all involved.

Good luck with this one Souverain.

Spring Practice almost here! Questions

As far as I'm concern there are no clear favorite, except that Clayton looked better then Souverain in actual game time situation last year and how will Smith or Messina for that matter have an impact on the #1 or #2 spot.

Clayton has come a long way since I first saw him after he transfered, Souverain needs to develop his mental aspect of the game - I am interested to see how Smith handles snaps under center. I see Messina as a dependable QB, but without any real life snaps hard to tell how he will handle the pressure.

I think there will be some surprises after spring as to who will be the top dog going into Fall practices. We don't need a miracle worker at QB position, but someone that will be efficient enough to keep those chains moving. IMO, with an much improved OL and the RB getting on track, which will help take some pressure off the QB enabling us to be more consistant then last year. Our average points per game should also increase. My concern will be throwing an unproven QB to the wolfs in those very tough, 4 game, road strentch to start the season.

Those 4 games will be a major test for whomever get the shot at QB. The coaches are a lot smarter than I am so I'm sure that they will see every aspect of his game regardless of the outcome of the OOC games.

I also feel as you do about the QB just needing to maintain a smart game because of the experience of the O-Line and the RB's.

Spring Practice almost here! Questions

I just hope that with an inexpereince QB at the realm, we become so predictable of an offense that we depend on the run to much - in the pass I always felt that we needed to use the pass to step up the run, but now I think the opposite is true now. Establishing the run will be a very important part of our offense this year and that mean winning the individual battles in the trenches - the OL will have to play a big part of our success this year.

An interesing scenario at QB - we have Clayton who is not very mobile and Souverain who like to run ( Smith & Messina are also pocket type passers, Smith is a little more mobile ) -
So, are we going to see a rotation of QB's during the games?

If Souverain is around I'd say yes may will see the 2 headed QB again, like he used with Allen and Embick. When Embick was in the game most DC knew that he may take off in a hurry. If Souverain was used for that purpose only it may just work out. No passing pressure. Just moving the chains with his feet and throwing when he have to.

I agree with O.G. about Souverain and he is a very cool headed kid that can pose a lethal threat. The D's last year where a killer but if they do that with a double threat QB you take some chances that could lead into big gains and possibly a TD. Bytor you got the kids zero'd in from the QB spot. Spring will tell a lot about what they have learned. I think the rotation will play a part next year how much is the question. Souverain can do a lot of things so we may even see a few trick plays. What will be even more interesting will be preseason camp.

Either way I smell football in the air.

I do hope the owls improve offensively this year!! The 3-0 O.T. loss to ASU was the joke of college football last year. I feel somewhat sorry for Embick. I think he is a good QB. When it was time for him to take charge of the offense, he was the offense. I hope he gets picked up this year. Preferably drafted.
