Here is what I picked up from yesterday…
Wilbert looked a tad off during the qb drills and pass skeleton, throwing a lot of balls that weren't completed or dropped. Once the team, moved into 7-on-7s Kooi looked like the more impressive of the two. I had always doubted Kooi's ability to be the starter come fall, but if he can continue what I saw yesterday, I'm optimistic.
As for the 3-4, it was difficult to tell, w/o pads on. I love the linebacking core, (Morgan, Johnson, Hinds and Henry) that looks like the strength of the team.
Hinds was clutch in pass coverage, knocking down passes, and grabbing an interception. He by far stood-out on defense, as a play maker.
At receiver, there are problems. This is the weakest I have ever seen the unit. Byron Hankerson did manage a few grabs in team drills, but overall this is a struggling unit.
One guy to keep your eye on is safety Cortez Ash. DB coach Dick Hopkins gives him an ear-load every play, but with Austin Jensen and Marcus Bartles out with injuries, he has room to move up the charts. I'm very impressed with his size and speed.
*Spoke with Willie Floyd and he still hasn't heard about his 6th year of eligibility. He mentioned he wishes that he was taking part in spring drills, as he would be lining up at wide receiver.
*Former Linebacker Michael Lockley was assisting coaches with the LB's…
Jean should of been RS'd his Freshmen yr…then again do we win the NO bowl w/out him? I think so we were pretty loaded at receiver that yr
