Stadium Decision Pushed Back to September

Owl's Nest

"The new timetable is that it will be on the BOG agenda Sept. 16, and that is if the FAU Board of Trustees approves the final plan on July 21. "

This is so freaking sad. The BOG acts like the stadium is a minor issue, and that it can wait until the very last minute to discuss it.

Don't know how you all feel out in Owl Country, but I am at my breaking point on this issue. I have been patiently waiting for an on-campus stadium since FAU first announced their plans for a possible 40,000 dome stadium back in 2004-ish. Then that got scrapped. 30,000 seat open air stadium to be opened by 2010 against Michigan State! That got scrapped. Postponed till 2011 against probably Western Kentucky. Most likely will get scrapped.

FAU should stand for Frustrated Alumni University.

Re: Stadium Decision Pushed Back to September

This isn't new news.  It was explained at the last BOT meeting that the rules for financing were going be changed at this BOG meeting that is taking place in Orlando this week.  They had said that they were going to wait until after the BOG meeting so they know how they must structure the fiancing deal with the bank.  Any delay sucks, and FAU has done plenty of feet-dragging on this issue, but this particular delay wasn't the administrations fault.

Unfortunately, we do not have enough Frustrated Alumni.  We have 1000 die hards that want a stadium.  If we had 30,000 Alums that cared enough about anything, we would have a stadium, and a long time ago.

and of those 1000 die hards, you don't think any of them are Alumni that are frustrated at the University?

What are the odds it will be delayed again in September?

I agree completely. So, how can we build our base of support? Is it a chicken-and-egg problem – do we need a stadium first?

Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if it is delayed again in September.

Re: Stadium Decision Pushed Back to September

Lets wait till Sept before we go and yell at the board..from the reading it looks like its a legal bond issue that would have needed to be readdressed later if it was passed.  I would hate to have been excited about it getting passed, and then hearing that it was being reconsidered.  As long as we get our stadium ( and soon).

Until everyone sees how this conference change shakes out for the little programs its def best not to have massive debt. If revenues drop and the disparity grows like it looks like it will there may very well be a lot of programs dropping down to 1-aa.

That is not happening anytime soon.  Not with the Big 12 staying together.  And that is exactly why we need the stadium NOW.  We can't wait any longer because conference expansion is not going away.  Whether it is this year or 2 years from now, we need to be in a better position to move up.  This time we got caught with our pants down and lucked out it wasn't worse.
