Stars schmars...THIS is where it's at!

ask MIKE, he is the one who made the statement.

Go ahead, ask him.

Thank you for proving my original argument.  Anyone who reads this thread can see who struggles with being oblective, but hey now that we finally agree I guess we can both be done with this topic.

One angle I haven't really heard mentioned is the recruits.

Stars affect recruits opinions.  Don't think for a second recruits aren't checking in on rivals and scout to see who is committed and how many stars they have.  Then you'll get different views from different kids.  Some kids may not want to go somewhere where there is a guy who has a lot of stars at same position, others may welcome the competition.  But I'll guarantee that with most kids looking at the sites they'll judge a quality of an incoming class by stars, and that will affect their decisions in a way.

One factor is that for the kid that has none or 1 or 2 stars but feels he is better then he was rated and feels he has to prove to the world he is that 3,4 or 5 star kid will work his butt off. I think that is the kids that Schnelly for the time being is going after. You know the "Grinder" kid as someone put it. That kid is going to be the kid on the practice field that is very very hunger for a spot and will not only play with a ton of heart but do what ever he has to to get bigger, faster and stronger and hone his skill's to be that top athlete that others turned away from. But you are right the kid that has no desire and feels he isn't as good because he didn't have as many stars will be a tough kid to turn around but if you do get one you do what you can and hopefully the team mates he will be joining will show him the way. The it is totally up to that kid. IU know kids on this team that were no stars but ask one of then what they think about the stars especially after last season. They could care less, its funny how winning has that affect on people. ;)

?

i was never here to "argue" anything with you…im here to discuss my Team…again, i ask you what are you here for?

you appear to be another  team's fan who struggles to find purpose outside of being confrontational in nature towards opposing Teams, and offer nothing meaningful in dialougue…

but, for the sake of being fair, ill try this once:

ok, i dont get your "arguement"?  what is it exactly??

if you care to converse about something, then make a courteous point…or pose a valid question…otherwise, ill just hit the ignore button and as you put it:

"be done with this topic".

the recruiting sites get their info from the students not the schools.  The fact is all those kids I listed were claiming offers they didn't have.  Hey, I'm not knocking these kids for creating a sense of demand, but when a kid tells rivals.com he's got multiple offers and ends up going to Morgan State something doesn't jive.  I don't want to get in a pi$$ing contest about morgan, I hope he comes in with a chip on shoulder, gets healthy and plays well for you.  However, most D1 schools(including us) pulled their offers due to his knee injury.  I hope this class works out well for you I believe what is good for the belt is good for all of us.  FWIW I don't put alot of value in the star system either.  If you know anything about middle we always  had "top" recruiting classes that never really amounted to anything.  I just disagreeed with the theory that you can judge a class by who else offered them, because there is no way to know who really offered them .

Argument does not equal confrontation-look it up.  In fact my comments weren't directed at your team at all, but your theory that you started the thread with. The quote was my original point(maybe that word will make you feel better than argument).  Your reply was that you had verified it through the recruiting sites and that you were done with the topic.  I aplogize for trying to have a rational discussion with a myopic fan.  I know better but sometimes I give people the benefit of the doubt.  I guess you'll be ignoring me now-aw shucks.

no, you seem logical…

but next time you should try discussion rather than this:

"nope its CONFIRMED."

that comes across as confrontational, not objective…just seems like your on here to stir the pot, etc…

and with all due repsect bro, your tone is abrasive…

i didnt read the above quote you listed, so that is on me…

anyway, best regards…

I'm sure most of you have heard the story about the kid Kevin Hart who faked the whole recruiting process, even held a presser and committed to Cal.  Oregon and Nevada coaches who knew of him said he was not a scholarship athlete.  Rivals listed homeboy as a 2 star athlete.  I guess being 6'5 290 automatically gets you some stars.

Size does automatically get you attention. I went to high school with a guy who was 6'7" and 220. He played TE. He was receiving attention from every big name school in the country including a Louisville team that was coached by non other than Howard Schnellenberger. Long story short, he wasn't that great of a player, but he had great size and for that reason he got lots of attention. He ended up at a MAC school only to quit after one year.

GO OWLS!!!

I played HS ball with a guy that fit those dimensions, just add about 20-30lbs, but he couldn't do anything…so the coaches started to call him "Manatee" since he was big, slow, and useless to them.
