Starting to get concerned...

I'll say this — this team is yet to take a step back so far this year, and Pelini is starting to look like he enjoys his job. I'm writing up something on him finding peace in his position for next week. I'm starting to think that the speculation that he's one-and-done is debunked.

Let's be honest.  You don't have a good opportunity to be one and done if you don't win.  Not saying the losses are his fault…just saying you don't get attention by beating Wagner.  I hope he ends up getting offers because of how great he has done.  We are not there yet.

I hope we get there.  I would rather lose a coach because of their accomplishments than lose them because they cannot win.

I have heard from more than one strong source that people had been bracing for Pelini to bolt for a different job (any job, DC, OL coach, anything) at the end of this season. That was just the scuttlebutt around the Ox. Never really put much credence in it, because it's a really stupid thing to do, career wise, and Pelini is anything but a dumb man. He's smarter than we all give him credit for.

That said, you don't think Nebraska wants him back? I'm surprised the Huskers didn't kidnap him when he went back to Omaha.

My gut is telling me he's in for the long run. Spirits have been high lately, and everyone on the team and coaching staff is starting to understand the station the team is in. They're not making a bowl, they know that. Now they can have some fun and play spoiler. It's a pressure-free role, and you've seen how they've played when the pressure is off.

Re: Starting to get concerned...

That's the first I have heard of speculation that Pelini would bolt after the year.  I can see where people would think that.  I mean, the AD that hired him was fired shortly after his press conference.  Still, as Dieter said, bolting for just any other job (other than a better head coaching job of course, but that isn't happening), would be just a terrible career move.  If he pulled that after just one season, he wouldn't get another head job for a long, long time, if not ever again.  Not to mention he brought in all the other coaches from other jobs in other states.  I can't fathom him walking away from them and leaving them out of work.  I just can't see it….unless FAU wanted him gone…and that seems even more unlikely given that we'd have to pay him to go away.

Re: Starting to get concerned...

I  think he stays, atleast until we pick up some wins over the next few seasons.  What else would he leave for?  Who wants to pick him up for a head coach? no one with our record.  Position coach or coordinator?  He's a defensive guy and our defense is at best decent for what they are, but thats still not great.  Pelini will stay and I'm still pulling for him to turn us around next season, and the one after that.

FAU - We got Bowls!
