Where do you see the word "Mexican" in that link? You'd think for someone who has lived in Florida for so long you would know that the word "Hispanic" does not denote that someone is Mexican. A hispanic person is anyone from Latin decent. So people from all over Central America, South America and some of the Carribean are consider Hispanic. For someone who's been in Florida for 22 years you don't seem to know much about the area.

And as far as that hurting attendance, no that should not hurt attendance. Remember that last season, with a 2-10 record we averaged higher attendance numbers than FAU when you guys went to the playoffs. Now i'm not trying to take a shot at you guys, I know you don't have a stadium on campus like we do, but that does show that there is potential. In fact, that may change this year with the teams that you have beaten thus far, especially if you are 5-0 going into your home opener. Just do me a favor and please research a little before you make blank statements about a whole demographic.
Woo.. your getting alittle offensive. OK sorry.. hispanic is not just mexican, but once again my demographics are straight out of your schools web page, and once again the primary sport in "Latin" America is soccer…… I have been to a few FIU soccer games and the turn out is above average…….

This has been on the drawing board for so long, it may be as old as some of the commissioners by the time we built it. And I have heard rumors that it may be later then 2007
I think they need to get the ball rolling while the fans are still excited. At least throw some drawings of potential archatecture our way. Keep the population into it. Brogan was Jebbys old Lt. Governer, surely he has some clout in the state of Florida.

With a little cooperation from the city, it should happen the question is when it will be approved so plans can go forward. IMO, with Brogan aboard, things should get done. 2007 is still the target date.

No big deal, I believe. It's just that he is, I believe, trying to state the reality that your conclusions can not be based on wrong premises.

I don't think he's being offensive, just stating the facts. As most South Floridians know, most South Florida Hispanics are still of Cuban descent,, although a growing number from other countries arriving lately. However, most students are first or second generation Americans from Cuban and/or other "ancestries", thus are more "americanized" than their parents or grandparents. I have no doubts whatsoever that these kids' primary sports (in the vast majority of them)team is Football and the Dolphins…then either basketball/baseball…and then soccer and hockey.

You are perhaps correct that soccer tends to bring "above average" attendance in comparison to other programs because of the large hispanic (from Central and South America) and other caribbean (Jamaicans, Trinidad & Tobago, ect) nations' population in South Florida, but the fact is that basketball, baseball, and now, Football have produced by far the greatest attendances in FIU's history, with the exception of some NCAA playoffs games we have played in Soccer.

Another interesting fact is that not all Latin Americans/"Spanish" people like the same sports. For example, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Panamanians, Venezuelans, Dominicans, and some others, their "primary" sports in those countries are either baseball and/or basketball, not soccer. I guess the point here is that the fact that a person might be from a Spanish-speaking background ("Hispanic"), doesn't mean automatically the "primary" sport in that country is "X" (Soccer) or "Y" (baseball).

Please, don't take this answer as anything other than trying to explain and perhaps, give a first-hand perspective (I was borned and raised in Puerto Rico, of Cuban descent, didn't even grow up in Florida and absolutely LOVE football as a fan more so than any other sport) of the issues that were brought up, and try to "clear out" some misconceptions.
