The last 4 classes were told they would have a stadium by 07 and no later than 08. credibility will go a long way. Broken promises go nowhere. Lockhart is supposed to be history in 08. They track that is being completely shortly would suffice until a stadium of substance can be built. I'm sure that the Track would not have a problem with that scenario since it would leave them and the school with a terrific track venue and a great place to hold state conferences for high schools etc. The BOT has a gift horse looking them straight in the eyes and they see nothing but butterfly's.

"Broken promises" suck. Credibility will be in question and many players are certainly dissappointed becuase they were told one thing and received something very different. I think it was a mistake to promise these young guys something that cannot be granted while they are here. I feel for them because they have done everything asked of them and the university has not fulfilled its "obligation" by providing the stadium that these guys were promised. It is sad. :( GO OWLS!!!

Track doesn't generate much, but neither does our football team. Let's not get in a pissing match with track people.

Football generated a MINIMUM of $1.8M this year…

BTW, im not trying to get into a "pissing match"…i am making a valid point that you build the top revenue sport first…then the rest of the sports come alot easier…they are spending good change on this track…that's my only point ;)

I see your point Florida-Owl. I can just see track people getting all up in arms because of your previous comment. I understand that the football team brought in $1.8 million, but that isn't income, it simply balances the budget. The days of this program generating money are years away. Also, the track might cost $1-2 million dollars, not nearly $100 million or more. GO OWLS!!!

If 1.8 mil from playing teams isn't income what is and it was used to balance the budget but it was still income. It was earned income no hand outs and the kids spilled there guts out and brought in the revenue. Not me not you those kids that suited up to play a very tough out of conference schedule. Thats what was used to help balance the budget. These kids go out a break there ass get pummeled and what did they get broken promises, again and a load of horse shit from old freaking stiffs. This BOT is a disgrace to this institution and they should be fired immediately.
As far as the track is concerned, all these athlete's are Owl's, most know each other and and I don't really think they are going to be upset. The football team is going to trash the track and screw the new facility.

Income is revenue minus expenditures. So technically the $1.8 million is not income. It simpy pays the bills. That said, I completely agree with you in terms of the broken promises. However, the truth is that the BOT never promised these kids anything, nor did the university. Schnellenberger and the coaching staff made the promises of a stadium. The BOT and the university have done little to help the coaching staff fulfill the promise of the stadium. In the end the players are the ones who are getting short changed. GO OWLS!!!

It is a very sad situation because the players are the ones who suffer. In future years recruiting will suffer, and FAU might have a difficult time getting teams to come to Florida to play without the promise of playing in a real stadium. I don't think too many schools are going to be excited about coming to play at Lockhart. I think most of the upcoming non-conf. games will need to be played at Dolphin Stadium much like Oklahoma State last year. GO OWLS!!!

OwlFan1:

Dolphin stadium is too far, and too far…did i mention too far?

I dont see why we play there at all…FIU makes us come to thier "stadium"…at this point, they should be making the drive to lockhart…what's the advantage of Dolphoin stadium…you have a bunch of recruits in there for an empty game - given what it holds…

why do you think its a good place to play?

Because it beats playing at a high school stadium. If Lockhart isn't available FAU should move back to Dolphin Stadium for a the non-conf games. No division 1-A player should have to play in a high school stadium. Can you imagine a Thursday night game on ESPN2 live from Boca High?? That would be sweet!!! NOT!!! It would be a joke.

If the option is between a high school stadium and Dolphin Stadium, I choose Dolphin Stadium. GO OWLS!!!

Lockhart is the reason… really.

When we started playing football the Miami Fusion were playing in Lockhart (which, apparently, is home to displaced teams). They didn't want us sharing their place so we signed a contract with Pro Player (Dolphin Stadium). Of course, the Fusion folded shortly after that (are all teams that play at Lockhart cursed?) and since we couldn't exactly fill up Dolphin Stadium we signed a contract with Lockhart. Unfortunately, as part of the deal with Dolphin Stadium for canceling the contract we promised them a certain number of games in the future (I think it was 10). That's why we play FIU and some other games there.

I think the worst and most unlikely scenario would have FAU joining FIU and UM in the Orange Bowl ;).
