SunBelt - CUSA Shake-up?

SunBelt - CUSA Shake-up?

Whose arenas have aluminum bleachers?

The Florida Atlantic University Owls' newly renovated basketball arena which they call "The Burrow."

It actually looks very nice from the outside and some of the concourse areas also look nice, but the court and seating areas looks really small.  There's no way that would fly with the Big East.  It looks like some of these pictures were taken last month and some of the newer ones were actually taken this week.

Hey isn't that a suprise, more negative crap from Raider.

Are you in denial?  Seriuos question, Dusky.  Do you think the Big East would offer Florida Atlantic a membership in their conference with the basketball arena you currently have even if you had a BCS bowl caliber football team?  I don't think they would.

You can consider it "negative crap" or you can take a good look at your basketball arena and look at every single basketball arena in the Big East and see a VERY big difference and then try to look at the world more realistically instead of through rose-colored lenses.

Um…Those aren't metal bleachers.  There will be/are chairback seating attached to those.

I agree that in our facilities' current state(no football stadium yet, renovated, but smaller arena, baseball stadium in need of upgrade), the Big East isn't realistic right now, but get your facts straight.

You can only judge so much from a picture.  They look like those roll-away aluminum bleachers.  You can't get facts straight when fuzzy photographs are all you have to go on.  At least you know that the Big East is unrealistic for FAU.

If you did a bit of research on the FAU website or even looked through our basketball message board, you would have known that they are installing chairback seating and not metal bleachers.  But whatever, that isn't the point.  The renovated Arena is plenty big/"nice" enough for the Sun Belt and even CUSA.  As for the Big East being unrealistic, I agree with you that right now it isn't.  The facilities just aren't in place yet.  If the Big East were looking at say, us and UCF, we'd lose right now.  That is why getting our facilities built is so important.  This doesn't mean that the BE isn't a realistic goal for FAU 3-5 years down the road, once the football stadium is up and running and once the basketball program continues it's success and the department gets moving on a new convocation center.

That's where I see the problem and apparently you don't.  It's taken how many years to even get funding for a new football stadium for you guys?  Pretty much since you started football, right?  Believe it or not, that's been about seven years ago.  If the Big East looks into expansion within the next five years I don't think FAU will still be ready to move up by then.  I don't think you'll have the time to be where you need to be to meet the Big East's standards by the time that league is ready to expand again.

Re: SunBelt - CUSA Shake-up?

I believe the current arena will eventually be a Volleyball venue and the new Convocation center will be near the Football Stadium. As for standards the U of M had no stadium on campus and when they started in the Big East (wasn't that Schnelly who brought them to the BE) and there basketball facility was no where near what the renovated arena is. They will get there and as raider stated it has taken this LONG a whole seven (can you believe it) years to get this far. That in itself is pretty shaky for a program of this stature, and can you a imagine this is all taken place when in two years there will be a new Alumni Center, Health and Wellness facility, Re-molded and increased Engineering School, an Innovation village and in 3 to 4 years a 400 bed teaching hospital. Maybe just maybe the BE might be thinking ya know these guess are getting ready for some big things in the future and we would like to see a team from the South Florida Market again since loosing Miami. A minimum requirement, or a strong future opportunity to capitalize on potential draws from bowl games, Bball playoffs, And Regional play for Baseball. That might take vision and you may be right Raider because while the BE was walking around with there finger up there ass a load of programs walked.

raider can believe what he wants to believe… or more like be jealous of the tremendous advancements FAU has made in SEVEN SHORT years…

furthermore, some owls fans here can believe what you want…

the point is there is ZERO CHANCE schnellenberger will allow FAU to move any conference other than a BCS conference… he'd rather stay in the belt and BEAT UP on teams like middle tennessee until the opportunity presents itself to play in a conference that allows us to play for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP… and i am not saying NOW, OR NEXT YEAR, i am saying "in due time" (i.e. 3-4-5 years from now)

Beat up on us?  Cool, man.  You do that whenever you can.  You haven't really done it yet like we have to you on two occasions.  I think whenever you win at least 20, you can consider it as "beating someone up."  FAU has yet to do that to us.

Explain to me again why the Big East would want a school called Florida Atlantic University over an established program such as Memphis, East Carolina, or someone from the MAC with some power?
