SunBelt - CUSA Shake-up?

We have FAU beat in every single athletic facility and once our baseball renovation is complete, we'll have Troy beat in every athletic facility, save for football, which we're pretty even in. .

So What!!!

We are the first to admit we need facilities. We are getting them and it doesn't happen overnight. This university is only a little over 40 years old. We have had intercollegiate sports much less than that. Football only 7 years.  There are Board approved plans to upgrade all facilities. We will get there. You should be cheering us on.

does FAU have a Sun Belt conference championship in any sport?
That should be considered a stupid question simply because of the number of years FAU has been a full member of the Sunbelt. What, 2 years for football and ONE full season for all the rest except swimming.   How many conference championships would you expect us to win in our first year in the conference? So why do you ask a stupid question like that?

I believe FAU has been the reigning swim/dive conference champ for the last 2 or 3 years. The Swim team was a member of the SBC long before the rest of the teams.  The softball team won the SBC last season.

Anyway, I don't think anyone here thinks we are too good for the Sun Belt(at least I don't feel that way)

I don't feel that way. If we had wins like Troy did this season I would think otherwise.

I don't expect Troy to be in the SBC much longer. I hope that by 2010 the both of us will be out of it but I have a feeling like, because of their facilities, UCF may be a notch higher on the Big East's wishlist than we are. And yes, I know they've not been uber-impressive as of late.

Would the ACC ever consider us? Wouldn't that be an interesting move too? No one here seems to talk about it…

the ACC has their 12 teams, two 6-team divisions for the football championship…

that's why the big east is the IDEAL situation… they don't have 12 teams in football

the ACC is set, barring a school jumping ship and leaving

which again, i am kinda sick of saying this, lol, but the thought of it makes me excited every time i write it…

the big ten has 11 teams, lol… they need ONE to make it the 12, two 6-team divisions

there are rumors aplenty about who will be their 12th ("will" because they ARE going to expand to 12 teams in the very very near future)

notre dame, missouri, iowa state, syracuse, pitt, cincinnati

if it's syracuse, pitt or cincinnati that bodes well for us, seeing that would mean the big east is down to 7 football teams… they'd need 5 teams to make it 12… they're not going to go out and find 2 teams at that point… they're going to want to fill up with 5 newbies and get that championship game at one time… not years at a time

in my mind:
ucf, fau, troy, memphis, marshall are the 5 ideal teams for the big east… all SOUTHERN schools, expanding their southern market… these new 5 with louisville makes the Big East South division… the rest of the big east (minus the one who would be leaving) make up the Big East North

What's so ideal about taking two programs that aren't even tops in their conference? This is not a flame, but MT has 3 Bubba's Cups, WKU has 4, Troy has 0 as does FAU,  and before you give me any of the "how long has FAU been in the Belt" excuse MT won the it in our first season in the Belt. We have won it 3 out 6 years that we have been in the Belt. The number of years in the conference excuse doesn't cut it. The only advantage that FAU holds on MT in regards to the Big East picking up a team, is being in the football hotbed of Florida.

One last thing, in regards to your "ideal situation" you have USF playing in the Big East north… ???

Im sure the USF thing just slipped his mind kappa.  I think one of the biggest factors most are leaving out is this. What is the one thing that makes the real world go round.  $$$$$$$$$$$.  South Fla has a very huge tv market.  The bcs conferences are always going to factor this in if they are faced with choosing a new school.  The one thing that FAU does have on their side is location and a potential for a very, very large tv market.  And of course as all of us who live in south florida also know is that a very large portion of the population living in south florida are from the northeast and would love to see more of their home town teams and alma maters playing locally on tv.  Personally i think fau joining the big east is at least a decade away maybe longer.  But i may be wrong, who knows.  My point is this. The tv market is where the money is, and all of us in the business world know that everyone always follows the $$$$$$$$.

Re: SunBelt - CUSA Shake-up?

Athletic Facilities: Troy vs MTSU

Football: Even.
(However, FAU will have the Belt's most impressive on-campus stadium in the future.)

Baseball: Even.
Currently, Troy and MTSU are both renovating/expanding their Baseball facilties. Both programs will have top Baseball facilities soon.

Basketball: Advantage MTSU (until 2012/2013).

Troy's football facilities are much better. Troy's club seating, suites and skyboxes are among the best in football. MTSU's "suites" are outside under awnings.

Troy's baseball stadium rebuild, now under way, will result in one of the best college facilities in the country. It includes locker rooms and more on the field, a green monster-like outfield, artificial turf, seating expansion and more.

Troy has nice new track and field, soccer, softball and tennis facilities.

The arena is next.

it's obvious our facilities lag but if they can get up to speed i don't see why can't at least get a look from the big east. we also have to improve our academics.

Wrong, Bob.  Middle Tennessee ALSO has club seating, suites, and skyboxes on the homeside just like Troy, but we also have open-air suites UNLIKE Troy.  Troy has a nice stadium, but UNLIKE Troy, Middle Tennessee's stadium and improvements were funded by the university and the athletic department BRAA members whereas Troy's was funded by Richard Scrushy (king of the Healthcare fraud scandal) and Movie Gallery (the Dothan-based movie rental company that filed a Chapter 11 just less two weeks ago).  Just as long as Troy has their money.  That's all that matters.

Sorry, but Troy's track and field, soccer, and tennis facilities are lacking and that basketball arena is the worst college arena I've ever seen for a Division 1 school.  Even FAU has a better basketball arena, and theirs looks like a high school gym.  At least FAU's high school gym is newer.  Troy's is falling apart.
