Talk around the country

For those not living in South Florida what have you been hearing about the New Orleans Bowl? What kind of talk is going on about FAU, if any?

Up here in central Illinois I'm getting teased a bit by people. The bowl is so low on the food chain, people tease me that they don't have any desire to watch it on TV. BUT, people are hearing about it and are talking about it. Because of this bowl game, more and more people have heard of FAU's football program.  University of Illinois is in the Rose Bowl this year so thats what is currently talked about the most.

What does anyone else hear? N.Y. Texas, North Carolina, Rhode Island…….

I'm up in DC and unfortunately have not heard a word about the game.  I don't find this disappointing though, as I don't hear anybody talking about any games other than the major bowl games unless they are fan of a particular team.  I do think that being the only Friday night game on national TV will be huge for us.  I also expect the announcers to hammer home the fact that FAU was the fastest team to reach a bowl game.

Re: Talk around the country

In San Antonio, there has been a few blurbs on it. Because the local university (UTSA) is modeling after FAU's growth (adding football next year), the media closely follows FAU. In addition, there are a lot of transplant Texans from South Florida. Just the other day I had a moment in the gym..

Guy walking by with a 1983 Hurricanes shirt so I said:
"What do you know about the 1983 Canes"
he said "I'm from Miami. Grew up on the Canes"
Then I said…."then you know about FAU"
he said "yes, schnellenberger got them into a bowl

Got a few comments at the Big 12 championship game on Dec. 1 just a few hours after FAU won against Troy. Few fans, especially Oklahoma fans, said congrats to me as I walked by with an FAU football shirt on.

404 | UTSA |The University of Texas at San Antonio

8 years after initiation, they are looking to go division I-A…

will there be a day when ALL 340+ division i programs have division I-A football teams?

South Alabama, Western Kentucky, UTSA, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, UNF ("someday" they say), FGCU, Gonzaga… all ahve expressed interest in fielding a division I-A football team, some of which are already transitioning (S Alabama and Western Kentucky)

Re: Talk around the country

There is a chat going on right now on ESPN.com they are talking to Bruce Feldman who I guess works for ESPN the Magazine as a writer of college football. Well for the past hour I have been asking questions trying to get him to talk about FAU I must have 15-20 different names before he finally answered me.

Jared (Deerfield Beach Florida): You ever going to comment on FAU? or do you choose to ignore them like the rest of the media?

SportsNation Bruce Feldman: (4:31 PM ET ) Howard has done a great job (again)..Curious to see how they handle all of Memphis' big receivers.

It's not much but at least I got him to talk about us

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Talk around the country

Not sure if anyone is watching the Utah Vs. Navy game on ESPN but they just had a commercial for the game tomorrow. Martin Hankins and Memphis takes on Florida Atlantic and Rusty Smith. They've been talking about FAU now for the past 5 minutes. About how good Rusty is and how impressed they were that we beat Troy and they saw Troy play a few weeks ago and were impressed by Troy. They are really impressed with FAU they beat a big 10 team and Howard's Florida Atlantic team is making strides
