tell me it isnt so

I was on my way home listening to the radio broadcast after the game saturday and the announcers were talking about how it was atleast good that clayton was getting some snaps in because he was most likely next years qb for fau. Tell me this isnt so. I dont know if i missed something here or what but i was just wondering if something has happened with McKinson. I mean these guys were talking like its a done deal, saying fau is gonna have to find somewhere to put McKinson on the field other than at qb. Personally i have not at all been impressed with eighther Clayton or Mckinson when they have got to come in this year. With all the talent and praise that has gone to Mckinson I thought he was the leading candidate next year to lead the team. Anyways if any of you guys know any more about this please fill me in.

IMO, I think it's because Clayton has made more progress behind center then Souverain has. Souverain does have a great set of wheels and a strong arm, however lack the good decision making ability - he tends to use his legs a bit to much and Schnelly tends to prefer a pocket passer. I have made the same assumption about Clayton being our next QB, but we do have a Red-shirt freshman in Rusty Smith that may put pressure on Clayton for a starting spot next year. Clayton however would have the edge considering he has been in the system a little longer then Smith and Schenlly will tend to go with experience first.

I have been one to give Souverain much praise in the past, but he just has not preformed as well as Clayton - you never know what can happen during the off season, but I do believe Souverain will be converted to a WR or other position.

It will interesting what will happen at the QB position now that the SBC is out of our reach, we should start seeing either Souverain or Clayton and possibly both under center on some type of rotation system with Embick, still being our #1 guy.

We need McKinson as a wr next year anyway…..apart from Simeon, none of our wr's for 2006 have really impressed me so far. He could be a Randle-El type of guy. Run some reverses with him.

I was wonering just that….we now have 6 losses, and can't win at least 6 games to be bowl-eliglible…… So how does coach balance playing out this season and preparing for next season?? Does Souverain start to learn WR?? Does Embick start to split time with Clayton?

I'm all for Embick…he is a tough SOB, but besides making sure we remain undefeated against FIU…..do we start preparing for next year now??

I think it would be a mistake not to start playing some of these guys at QB including Mckinson. Off season is where they will all have to step up and the guy that works the hardest and progresses the most will get the job - that goes is for any position.

McGahee, IMO has come a long way since spring where he struggled converting back to WR and in my opinion needs the ball more - he is a play maker when he has the ball in his hands - He has shown me that he cacthes everything thrown his way and makes things happen after the cacth. Why not put him on kick-off return, althought he did a few punt returns on Sat..

I agree that playing the youngsters is important for the future, but our best players now still need to be playing the majority of the time to finish the year. It's much more important we finish the year on a high note at 5-6 or 4-7 showing we can be competitive in the conference rather than 1-10, which might cost us a few good recruits.

McKinson has looked completely inept behind center. He looks scared and totally out of his element. On the other hand, Clayton has looked poised and calm behind center. I think Clayton needs to be the go to guy for next year. McKinson is an athlete, not a QB. He can be moved to WR and be much more effective. With his thin frame, can you imagine him taking the hits that Embick has taken this year?? He wouldn't last a game at QB. GO OWLS!!!

Doesn't McKinson have to WANT to change positions? He's really young, he could transfer and still have a couple of years of eligibility if he's hell bent of taking the snaps. I'd hate to lose him though!

IMHO…….
Unfortunately no. If he refuses he simply doesn't play. That may sound harsh but that's how they do it in college. There are currently about 5 guys who had to change positions to get playing time. Benson had to move from TE to LB because he was behind Crissinger-Hill. Also Tony was a WR but L Taylor and R Bynes had those spots sewn up. So TE was in the cards. WR Magahee was a DB for 3 years! Stetson can play O or D. He was behind some good quick D linemen so offense didn't look too bad. Some of us have openly questioned why Souverain was heavily recruited as a QB to FAU. Simple. Some coaches will recruit the best available athlete off the boards before someone else grabs him. The Big Boys are notorious for that. Grab him now and see where he fits in later.
We all know that Coach Schnelly is a pro set coach. Has been from day one and will not change. Some teams will fit the team around the QB( Atlanta/Vick), (Ravens/Dilfer: Big O line. He couldn't run)
(Omar Jacobs/Bowling Green)(Nebraska teams from the 70's and 80's) etc.

Clayton looks good under center. He has the prototype tools which Coach likes in his QB's. Tall w/weight. Kosar,Kelly,Testeverde, Brohm.
I would hate to see McKinson leave but if he's looking at QB and nothing else, he may not get the shot because of the offense we run.
You guys may remember years ago when Embick came. It drove coach nuts when he took off out of of the pocket!

As for playing the younger guys. Remember that there are seniors on the team who need some reps. Including Embick. They will probably keep the current system to give these guys a decent shot at the next level.

Sorry about the ramble.
