The article we have been waiting for

I hate pride as much as the next guy. However, people on this board are saying that we belong at the same level as USF and UCF while leaving out FIU. That is prideful in itself. Is that not doing the same thing that Leavitt is doing?

Beyond that point, USF has a legit shot at beating West Virginia. Nobody gave them a shot last year and they did it. I am sure that nobody gave them a shot to beat Auburn and they did it.

Let's face it, like it or not USF is on the map and they are making noise so predicting that they will get crushed by West Virginia seems a little bit senseless.

GO OWLS!!!

?

take that up with them…im not arguing here my friend…

its all about match-ups…and in this case WVU is my choice…

let the best team win…i will re-visit this thread tommorow to celebrate ;)

I for one, am hoping USF wins the game so they are full of themselves next week when they play us.  If they get spanked tonight, they will come to Lockhart all fired up.  Don't need that.

I am not arguing either. I just think that USF deserves respect. They are currently much closer to being part of the "BIG THREE" than are UCF, FAU, or FIU. They have also been at it longer than FAU or FIU. In 3-4 more years FAU will most certainly be at the same level as USF in terms of wins over quality opponents. Heck, a win over Kentucky would launch FAU into the national spotlight tomorrow. However, right now USF is a better program than FAU and some could argue that they are playing better football than Miami and FSU.

GO OWLS!!!

I agree completely. It will take a few years of sustained success… it's way too early to make and judgments. USF got into CUSA and the Big East far sooner than we will due to circumstance. Clearly, the BE provides the opportunity to be ranked every season, while the SBC does not (yet).

Re: The article we have been waiting for

Not to agree with the statement, but I would like to think that the comment about the "Other Schools" was probably taken out of context.  USF is essentially in the same position as we are right now, they are just a little ahead of us.  Just like FAU, the bulls are trying to get their own identity in the state, and get proper recognition.  As a grad of FAU, my allegiance lies with the owls, but after living in the tampa/st. pete area for the last two years, and having gone to many bulls games, it is good to see the local underdogs doing good and getting some attention.  If we were getting our first ranking and playing a huge game tonight or tomorrow, we would be talking just as much smack.  Well, I don't think coach would, but only cause its not his style.  Coach Leavitt has always been a quiet, down to earth guy who seemed to think that you get respect by winning games, not bragging.  I for one think that him and the team has earned the right to make a few statements.  Granted, that did sting a little upon reading it, but hey, do you think we will be any different when it's our turn?  The atmosphere over here also is fueling the fire, the mayor has designated today "Green and Gold" day, and the entire town has gone crazy.  I think it's cool as hell.  And, I have to agree with a previous poster, in saying that even if I was not a bulls fan, I want them to win tonight, so they hopefully underestimate us next week.  No one wants to deal with an angry bull, ha ha.

The stadium, the recruits, the fans and the other essentials (i.e. the band) are all necessary.

2010 we'll have the stadium.

That means from now until then, our recruiting class shuold get stronger. Hopefully Schnellenberger can
add some stocky (260+) lb guys to both o and d lines to put them on par with other players in the BCS conferences. Not that we should EVER lose our "speed" guys, but it's a recurring comment from rival schools and sports broadcasters… we're undersize as compared to our competition and we need to be able to stop any moving trains they charge at us.

The Minnesota game has ignited interest in our team here on campus. It's not like everybody's running out to the next game but the interest is definitely growing. A win over Kentucky/USF could definitely keep that going. The Minnesota win just exemplifies how important it is not just to have wins but wins over teams worth bragging about (just like USF brags about taking down Auburn – and rightly so – and it helps them because most lay people know that Auburn has a good football team).

I've expressed to both Brogan and Norman Tripp that we need to focus on continually increasing our residential numbers. The residential students are the ones that make it a point to attend games, get involved with clubs, etc.

They agree, noting the 1,545 beds that will be added in phases for the Innovation Village. I told Tripp that was nice but the key number that we need to hit – the number that most residential schools have – is 5000. If you remember, Brogan said in  his Ten Year Plan that he wants to see 5000 at Boca and 500 at Jupiter.

An addition of 1545 brings us just under 4000. It's definitely a step in the right direction but I recommended we consider flipping things completely, going from a commuter school to being a school with as many as 10,000 people on campus by 2020.

Tripp's response was that he's not sure if we'll hit 10,000 and right now we're looking to construct modestly, drum up interest in more housing, and then build to meet demand. He was saying, "Building housing is not a problem. It pays for itself. Do you know how easy it is to build housing? We just need to have the demand there to sustain it."

FAU's reputation among high school grads is changing – you can see them fishing for opinions on Facebook when they ask their friends, who are at FAU, how they like it. We take care of freshmen and they take care of us in many ways.

Let's hope they can take us to the Big East.
