The Big East!

Re: The Big East!

The Big East!

I don't know about Troy being the worst place in the country. I've never been to Troy or to their campus but I'm pretty sure I've seen pics posted on here. Campus looks to be nice from what I've seen with brick buildings. If it was that bad no one would go there. Obviously DeMarcus Ware and Osi Umenyora (spelling?) as well as number of others didn't find it to be that bad.

I don't mind all the Troy people on the board, let them talk all they want, it's a good rivalry and I just hope the real FAU team shows up on Tuesday as well as the fans because I know the real Troy team will show up and if we get outnumbered in our own stadium on national television then that is just sad and us fans should be embarrassed

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

They won't come close to outnumbering us, but they have brought more fans to our games then other SBC opponents.  That may be because they have a bunch of Florida kids on their team, so there is always a lot of family there.  Given the cost of travel these days and considering that the game is on a Tuesday night and nationally telecast, I don't think we'll see a huge travelling contingent from Alabama.  However, the last time they came here, they had a few hundred fans in the visitor section…which like I said, is more then the 50-100 you usually see from other conference teams.

I also have no problem with the Troy fans on the board.  I like it when visiting teams come to talk about the upcoming game.  I just don't like it when they make up things (like FAU having said they should be in the Big East) about our program just to have an excuse to tell us how good they are…which is basically what this thread was started to do.

Re: The Big East!

The funny things is despite their success on the football field, Troy is one of the last teams that would get a Big East invite. The only thing they bring is a good football program and a very talent rich recruiting area. First and foremost the BE will never consider Troy as long as they are playing in the Trojan dome, moreover, aside from the recruiting ground, I definitely don't see the Big East falling all over themselves to get into the Troy/Dothan television market and a main campus of less than 10,000 students these are the same problems that will keep Arkansas Sate from consideration. The only teams in the Sunbelt who have a realistic shot at making to the Big East are FAU, FIU, MT and WKU. All have one or all of better facilities, larger enrollment and better television market.

And once again who is in the top 2 in the SBC this year and who is not!?!

Your bragging about this like you're the best athlete in the special olympics.

No one cares bro.

Re: The Big East!

I disagree about Troy not having a chance to go to the Big East.  Market size is important of course, but UConn isn't in a big market at all.  They're in the Storrs/Mansfield area, which only has about 20,000 people there.  Troy has 16,000, but has the Dothan and Montgomery markets, which are not far at all.

Troy is building a top-notch basketball facility in just a few months.  The baseball stadium/facilities are arguably the best in the Sun Belt next to MTSU.  Football stadium is an excellent facility as well.  So don't count Troy out of a move to the Big East.

Here's an idea.  Why don't all the SBC teams just stay put and get real good and have an undefeated team some time and maybe we'll become an Automatic BCS conference!  It could happen.  I think the MWC has a chance to become a BCS league if they keep up their progress.

Anyway, I hope to see a lot of people at the game so it will look great on TV.  I know a TON of Troy people are going to be there, so you guys better be ready for us!

GO TROY!

Re: The Big East!

Troy might not have the best facilities in the big east (but certainly O.K.), but with the new arena will have the best facilities in the SunBelt.

The new baseball facility is on par with many SEC schools. Soccer, softball, tennis and other sports' facilities are as good as they get in the 'Belt, and the football stadium is arguably the best in the 'Belt (especially when it comes to Stadium Club, sky boxes, training center, etc.).

I'm not saying Troy would go to the Big East because it will want another Florida team, but if the 'Belt does not continue making huge strides (especially with bowl ties), Troy will be a pick to move up - somewhere.

UCONN is also the only show for miles and miles up there and have two national powerhouse programs in men's and women's basketball.

As far as Troy's new basketball arena being a few months away, I don't know where you heard that, according to today's Dothan Eagle, another $9 million has to be raised before the university puts up another $10 million and then another $30 million will be financed. It took MTSU a bit longer than "just a few months" to raise a little over half that much for our baseball stadium, with the state of the economy right now I wouldn't be holding my breath for that $9 million to just magically appear.

MTSU's new baseball facility is best in the conference, the same can probably be said for our soccer/track stadium and most likely softball as well. From a functionality standpoint our basketball arena is as good or better than anyones in the belt, strongly lacking in fan ammenties, but the facility itself, the seating, the video boards the locker rooms and training facilities are all top notch. Our football stadium is as good as anyones as well.

As far as your new basketball arena, IF it actually happens, you won't see a game played there until the 2010/11 season at the earliest and I seriously doubt it will be the best in the Belt, that honor goes to Diddle Arena in Bowling Green with the Mitchell Center coming in right behind.

Re: The Big East!

Some of you MTSU people are so sensitive.

No one has put your facilities down.

Your football stadium is good (looked good on TV) but not up to Troy's quality, amenities-wise.

Troy's arena is a definite. The site is about to be announced. Word has it that the arena will be built in the open end of the football stadium and include a new field house, locker rooms, etc., plus sky boxes that will overlook the football games. Troy is booming and new buildings are going up all over. The arena is going to happen.

My post was not to put down MTSU but to refute claims that Troy's facilities are anything but at or near the top of what the SunBelt has to offer.
