Slavery is part of US history…you want to embrace that too??

Extreme example, I know, but the point is valid. Just because something has always been done, doesn't mean it has to continue if the majority of people object to it.

Extreme, to say the least. I never in my life thought that I would witness someone comparing "Who Let the Owls Out?" to slavery. The things are so far removed from one another that they don't even warrant mention in the same context.

I am not saying love it and go along with it, I am saying that it won't be the death of FAU football if a few people like the cheer.

I only like it because it is so horrific that one can't help but laugh. That said, I am not trying to be PC. I simply think it is old school and it had its moment as bad as it has always been.

GO OWLS!!!

Please. I'm not comparing WLTOO to slavery. You stated that since WLTOO has been done for so long, it has it's place. I say that is a terrible reason to keep something. Hence, it is like saying because slavery was once part our history, it has a place…which of course is ridiculous. You can use any example you like, but the point is just because something has always been done, doesn't mean it has to continue.

And no, WLTOO isn't the downfall of FAU football. I never have said that. I'm merely stating my opinion that the chant is terrible and when other team's fans at the games hear it, they mock us. It really isn't a huge deal in the grand scheme of things…only like 5 or 10 people ever participate in it anyway. The rest of the crowd just wants it to go away.

I never used the word downfall and I never said that you did either. You are reading between the lines and in the process you are blurring the text.

Maybe leave the analogies to someone else who is more well versed.

Excuse me. More well versed? Please explain why the analogy is a poor one in the context of your arguement? You stated that we should embrace something that you yourself do not like for the simple fact that people have been doing it for years. To me, that is the worst possible reason to continue to do anything you don't like or agree with. If you don't agree with that, fine, but you don't have to take a shot at me or my intelligence.

Anyway, this arguement isn't going to get us anywhere. I'm pretty sure that many people are on my side here. It's an tired, annoying chant and we need something better to represent our team. It's a free country. People can cheer anyway they like, but I'm just tired of opposing team's fans laughing and mocking it at the games. For now though, I'll just continue to do what I always have at the games and ignore the WLTOO chant until it finally goes away.

I watched the movie Purple Rain the other night and Morris from Morris Day and The Time was flapping his arms like an owl...maybe we could replicate that...oh e oh e oh!

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

I've thought about this as well…. thousands of people flapping their arms… but it would get in the way of the person next to you, see? So that's not going to work I don't think.

It isn't a shot at your intelligence, but at your ability to come up with good analogies. That said, let the people cheer. I am not so offended by WTLOO that I am calling for it to stop. I guess my overall point is who really cares if people want to do it. We shouldn't get all upset because a few people like a cheer that is linked to a song that enjoyed two minutes of success 6 years ago. Besides, who knew that a simple cheer could be so divisive.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the analogy…I think it is a pretty good one! :)

And really, I don't care what people cheer, but this one annoys me for some reason…and i'm not the only one. Perhaps it is that I hear people sitting in the stands mocking it and they go away from the game associating that with the University and the team. People outside of the area already associate Boca Raton with the elderly and the whole WLTOO chant just reminds me of an old white guy at a wedding trying to look cool by breakdancing. It's outdated. If it's just me that feels this way, i'll let it go.

Yeah, here's a visual. Imaging "Ole Blue" from the movie "Old School" in 80's garb. Flashdance T-shirt, parachute pants, & a headband. Complete with megaphone & a walker. Nice!!!

That visual is awesome!!! That is why as bad as it is it still seems to have some redeeming quality.

If it dies a slow painful death that is fine, if it lives on in infamy that is fine too. Anyway fauowls44 the hatchet is buried.
