Ha ha because Pompano is 2000 seats and FAU stadium is 30k! That band is a club tour, they're not selling out stadiums.

Of that list above, Jay Z might be able to hit the 30k mark. Blink, at their peak was pulling 15k to a show, which is unreal for a pop punk band but not worthy of a stadium rock show, and they're not gonna do that now.

My money on a big seller there, for the economics of it, Taylor Swift. Anyone that sells out Cruzan and there are still people that want tickets, that's who we want. Dave Mathews or any of the big country acts that seem to be massive nowadays, bands like that

Fact Checker….

On January 14, 2006, O.A.R. reached a new peak of popularity by drawing roughly 18,000 fans and selling out New York City's Madison Square Garden, which earned them a review in the New York Times.[1] On October 5, 2006, a press release declared that O.A.R. had officially sold in excess of 1.2 million albums over their career.[2] The band attributes much of its popularity to the recording and subsequent trading and downloading of their live shows.

Those are convenient facts…18,000 tickets in NYC is one apartment building, it's the reason why they are playing Pompano and not doing a stadium tour. Go back to your bong, hippie!

And for all of you Iron Maiden fans Niko McBrain and Rick Baum own Rock n Roll Ribs on 441 and Wiles in Coral Springs. The ribs are really good and the ambiance is…interesting.

I think Concerts is the way to go.  OAR is playing Pompano Beach next week…why aren't they playing at FAU?

That all depends… Who is OAR?

Of a Revolution

Just as I thought… never heard of them.

Not the band we need at the stadium. We need a band everyone can relate to, or will at least sell out.

Relate to: T-swift, One Republic

Sell out: Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Blink 182

I dont even think Lil Wayne sold out the first time he was on campus…again though poor marketing.

Re: The New Deal

I don't know if its a choice but I would do less HS football events to make it make more of accomplishment for kids to play on the field. just championships or however it works, no idea.

Getting DMB, Jay Z would be a great draw. especially in the fall when HS seniors are planning college visits.

This isn't freaking brain surgery. I don't know why this administration can't figure this out. If I ever win the lottery and buying the f'ing athletic department and running it myself. Rick, you're my number 2. Sidney Green, you're my number 3. PYSCHE! F you Sidney, you still suck.

It's real easy to say "just get Jay Z to play a concert", but actually doing it is another matter.  First of all there are very few acts that play 30,000+ seat outdoor stadiums anymore.  Second, why exactly would DMB or Jay Z want to play at FAU Stadium?  There are venues in this area that specialize in putting on concerts of that magnitude, yet a major act is going to come play FAU?  If you were a major musical act, would you trust FAU to put on your show??  I wouldn't.

Before FAU can even think of booking the type of act you want, they are going to have to prove they can actually put on a show there….any kind of show.  A concert is very different from a church service.

FAU needs to be booking high school football games, soccer matches, maybe a local music festival…basically, whoever will pay rent to use the facility.  The more events they are able to put on successfully, the more promoters will be willing to bring their events here.

promoters handle logistics. pretty sure the palm beach theatre is under 20k and mostly grass seating. so right there you just raised your tickets sale potential by 50%. And to top it off, how big are you expecting an arena to be for an act to play? also, a little thing called supply and demand. sold out=higher ticket prices. a little place called madison square garden is 19k and the worlds most famous arena.

So besides Miami which is 50 miles to the south you have an entire population to the north that has been sitting on the grass watching concerts.

if you got a descent reason, show it. but you're teetering here.

Re: The New Deal

My suggestion would be a craft beer festival or their own version of a chili cook-off .

There was a beer fest at Mizner earlier this year and it was a huge success. I wasn't able to make it but know a lot of people who did and they were amazed at the amount of people who were there. Set a price to get in like $40 or whatever it was at Mizner and then you get the food trucks out around the stadium or even open up the subways and the other shops inside

As for a chili cook off. Have all the organizations on campus cook their best chili and find a few local bands who can play country music. Mixing it up between their own stuff (if they have it) as well as some popular cover versions.

To me this is a win-win because you're getting the fraternities and sororities as well as other groups on campus that would like to participate involved. You charge everyone whether they are students are not a flat fee to enter. You have a panel of judges to determine who has the best chili. Have the judges be the football coach, mens/women's basketball coach, and either baseball coach or SGA president.

Give the organization that wins some kind of a prize, something that would entice people to join and try to make some bad ass chili.

Doing this would get coverage by the local media both in print and on TV. It would get the FAU name out there and who knows maybe one of these bands turns out to make it big and can come back and perform in the future inside the stadium

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Major acts have deals with big-time promoters like Live Nation and AEG.  There is a reason that DMB plays at Cruzan in West Palm every year.  The band has a deal with Live Nation and Live Nation runs the Cruzan Ampithere.  I gaurantee that if you look at all the stops on the DMB tour, they are all venues operated by Live Nation or they have some sort of existing relationship with them.  I'm sorry, but they aren't bringing a major act to FAU until they prove they actually know how to put on a show.  The one concert that was scheduled at the stadium was a disaster.  It had the lineup changed multiple times, it was postponed, and then ultimately cancelled.  Putting on a major concert takes more than just having a building with a lot of seats.

And I'm not sure what MSG has to do with FAU.  That is an arena (it's not 19K for a concert…it's closer to 14K)  Lots of acts play arenas.  Not many play stadiums anymore.  For one thing, it's cheaper and eaiser to play arenas and there is no weather to deal with.  Plus, there is a huge difference between having to sell 14,000 tickets and 35,000 tickets (seats plus floor).

The bottom line is this:  You are a major act and you are going on tour.  You want to play in South Florida.  Your promotion company asks for bids from the local venues.  FAU is now bidding against 2 major arenas and the Cruzan Ampitheater.  Those venues do this for a living.  They have the staff and infrastructure to put on a show that FAU simply does not.

I'd love FAU to get a big time concert.  It would be great for the school and the stadium, but it's just unrealistic right now.

That is true. FAU really hasn't held a major event with the stadium close to capacity since the opening day of the stadium and that wasn't even at full capacity. I think AD Chun needs to fire the marketing people and bring in people who will revamp everything.
