The prOWLers

Wanted to tell you all about a group of students that have started a spirit group called the "prOWLers". This is something that is going to catch on very quickly with students. They have there own t-shirts, came dressed for the occasion and were very load. I believe FAU has another tradition they can throw in the books. After the game Angelos thanked the kids for coming and even Schnelly gave praise to the group.

I personally want to say thanks, they did a heck of an excellant job representing. The Alumni and students absolutely need to jump on this and help support this group. Everybody around us and even the Carolina fans made some very nice comments. Maybe somebody can post some pics. Daphne probably knows these students so maybe she can help.

Baby steps guys, little by little and before you know it will be running. 8-)

Ditto!!!!!!
Rode on a bus for most of the weekend…with classes Monday morning…just to attend game. Showed FAU spirit the entire time in Columbia - FAU Tailgate and Stadium - and had some real fun. It was good to see our quality program get student support on the road. ;)

I hope that this type of thing catches on amongst the students. One of the best things that can happen for this program is to develop a bigger student following. We need at least a few thousand of them at every game. Not just football, but basketball as well(Of course, all of the others as well, but most importantly the 2 money makers).

I'm just guessing but this rise in student interest might have something to do with the fact that now practically all the students currently attending came to FAU with a football team already in place. I give them a lot of credit for persevering this season so far. Basketball on the other hand may be a different story. I'm looking forward to seeing what Rex Walters has done with the basketball team.

We used to have a group like this in the mid-late 90s for basketball. The Owl Corral i think it was called, but I might be wrong. We used to sit behind the opponents' bench and rag on them the entire game. It was great fun. I remember a coach once turning around and lecturing us about how we wish we could be out there…lol. But then FAU started blocking off the section behind the opponents' bench for visiting fans and the tradition stopped. Boo admin.

So Talon, where can we see some of these shirts etc… tell us a lil more about the group… maybe the athletics department should sponsor them and help them grow/promote…

Whatever happened to our discussions of marketing FAU football to the local community?

From what I understand a kid named Smitty is responsible for starting this with a group of students. The student population is increasing and if the stadium (no matter what kind) it is going to snowball. This looks and appears to be a very serious bunch. I talked to a couple of them and they have that crazed fan look in their eye's. The T- Shirts, what say you FAUTuba you are going to have to run point on this one. If they were that nuts for the away game, who knows what will happen for the home games.

Great Bunch, Great Spirit, Cool tradition - Keep it going

Hey Boone, that needs to resurface. start another post with some ideas to throw at the marketeers.

Here's what it says off their facebook group:

Group Info Name: prOWLers
Type: Student Groups - Social Groups
Description: The rowdiest group of students at FAU.

The prOWLers are now part of the Student Alumni Association. Both clubs have a similar vision: Increase student involvement around campus, increase school spirit, support school programs and help lead students towards their career goals.

After a two year absence, the prOWLers have come back stronger than ever. Led by 5-year FAU veteran Rick $mitty Smith, the prOWLers are 25 freshman strong who are geared up and ready to start new traditions at FAU.

With the help of Jeff, Shawn, Ryan,Vinny, Maddie, Jen, Jess, Alaina, Nadia, Bri, Laura, Laruel, Allison, Casey, Mike N., Andrew, and others, the prOWLers will be have personalized t-shirts, have thier own private bus to the football games, be participating in school spirit events, running the flags on the field during the football games and in some cases even going on road trips to watch our beloved Owls take on some of the best competition in the country.

That's not all. We will also be supporting the women's volleyball team, the men's and women's soccer team and will be hosting pep rallies in the fall.
