The return of Jared Allen

ha ha, I wasn't really sure where to go with my FAU obscure QB reference…it was a toss up between GJ and McKinson Souverain but went with Jahn, our FIRST ever starting QB!  ;D

I actually got the two mixed up constantly due to somewhat similar names until Allen won out…couldn't tell them apart…

At least Rusty and Sean don't sound alike…and they were deemed equal as well up until push came to shove and Rusty was picked… ;D

He is there to learn from Brohm people! This is simply the beginning of his coaching career. Maybe to move into Brohm's place if Brohm moves into Howard's place someday. It is planning and preparing for the program's future!

Yep and they clearly weren't equal. Every time Clayton came on the field I would think, "Oh god, here we go." Talk about a fateful choice to go with Rusty.

Re: The return of Jared Allen

We have to develop depth at all positions but especially at qb! That is a difference between Troy and FAU. Their qb goes down for the year and the back-up does just fine (great actually). If Rusty went down for us last year, I shudder to think about it!!! Hopefully we too can develop qb depth as well as overall team depth. We too need to be able to "reload" to stay on top and not go through the typical 1 or 2 years up and two years down cycle most teams go through.

We won't know until we see him play. All I know is that everyone loves Rusty now and when he first came to FAU most everyone on this board thought he was absolutely awful. Many dreaded the day that he would be calling signals for FAU. Then he gets the job and starts playing very well as he gains some confidence and everyone begins to adore him. My point is that we don't know what the back-up situation will look like until a kid gets some more playing time and gets a few games under his belt. It is very difficult to judge the quality of a QB when he is only coming in for two series a game and maybe throwing 5 passes.

GO OWLS!!!

Re: The return of Jared Allen

I think it has a lot to do with the type of offense we employ - Much tougher to develop a QB in a pro-style then in a spread offense, like Troy.

On the other hand - VanCamp needs playing time.

Not trying to sound like a giant Ahole here but how is Jared going to be a motivational or leader to Rusty and the other QB's?

I think Jared was a GREAT QB for FAU, especially in our formative years but I dont really see what he can bring to the table to improve the QB's and show them what it takes to make it to the next level. Thats what Brohm is bringing to the owls.

Im thrilled hes back as I love to see programs helping thier former student athletes if they desire that carrer path. But to say that hes going to improve the team seems a bit far fetched.

Jarred Allen, will not only Mentor the QBs but he will be there as a leader for all the players not only to draw up x's and o's but to also show them how to behave off the field.
