The state of our program

Call me crazy, but NCowl I love that idea.

It would go something like this:
HS- "Coach Leavitt grumble, grumble would you accept this game ball and be my coach of the future?"
Or
HS- "Coach Shula, can you put Alabama, and any designs you had on an NFL head coaching career behind you more grumbling and be my coach of the future?"
Or
HS- "Coach Leach, do you promise not to lock any of our players in a Port-O-Let, during practice?"
;D

Re: The state of our program

Even with the new stadium, recruiting WILL NOT IMPROVE until, freshman are used more than they are now.

Whatever has happen to our young WR's and TE's who were productive, if not dominating at times, in practices. NO ONE can tell me Holley is the best option as the no. 2 receiver. but he still starts and averages what, 5 yards a catch!!!!! While the others sit and wonder!

And get with it in recruiting some big bodies from the JC's for both lines, EVERY SUCCESSFUL MAJOR COLLEGE PROGRAM does this, especially when you knew we were looking at four and then five OL starters with ZERO starts! Not to mention being undersized as well. I want them to do well as do all Owl's fans, but they are being set-up for failure, as is the team, with the way the personel and recruiting has been handled the past several years.

We had ZERO Bowl bounce in terms of recruiting in my opinion! Bottom line, few 3 to NO 4 or 5 star recruit will ever come to FAU and accept sitting behind walk-ons and whatevers. They are good enough to contribute right away, especially vs. the Belt teams,  and will not sit the bench. For UF yes, for FAU, NEVER!!!!!!

And don't even talk to me about game management, ouch! Heck, we don't even know the book on when to go for two or not, and we look for "moral" victories not real ones far too often.

The bad news is we lost a close game we could have and should have won, the good is the D held them to 12 points for 3 and a half qtrs!. The fumble just totally switched momentum as we opened the door late and gave the game away.

Cory Henry and David Hinds were both used as true freshmen. I'm sure there are more that aren't coming to mind. I thought Chris Jackson played as a true freshman but the roster lists him as a RS FR now.

I understand this mentality and I had it for some time too. But some of our highest rated guys - like Amos Wood, for instance - weren't better than our starters. Wood dropped a lot of balls in his (redshirt) freshman year. It's great to say, "Rivals ranked them high so we should play these guys right away" but I was there and saw it… guy needed more time to develop. Same thing with Yourhighness Morgan… just wasn't ready. He's still not the dominating linebacker that, say, David Hinds has been. And which of those two guys was ranked higher?

I do think there are numerous better receivers than Avery Holley, I agree with you on that. I have no faith in our receiving corps this year outside of Lester Jean. Someone made a good point: our offense is Morris, Jean and sometimes Housler. No wonder it's so easy to contain us.

Re: The state of our program

Its easy to contain an offense that you see coming.

We don't do anything out of the ordinary. I know we're a pro style offense but what about a wilcat direct snap to Morris or Blanchard.
I think the last time we went with a no huddle offense was Minnesota and look what happened…. We won!

Boise State beats Alabama on a Hook and Ladder, they even used the statue of Liberty play. I'm not saying we need to do that to win but how about some excitement in our offense?

Have we ever faked a punt or a fg? I don't think we've ever tried a flea fliker but it seems like every team we play against has faked a punt and it was VERY successful.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

LSU beats Florida due to a fake field goal attempt. Poorly executed, but it worked. There is definitely room for a little spice in our very bland offense.

Re: The state of our program

I think Howard should stay on as a consultant, but we need a new head coach for 2011.

Also, it's time to start thinking about starters for 2011, and start giving them playing time NOW!
