I don't know what the timeline is, but wouldn't these other bowls (st pete, papa johns, etc.), if they need Sun Belt teams, have to wait until the team in the NO Bowl accepts their invite before the invite other team?  There's no guarantee that if we passed up the NO Bowl that we would be invited to a "better" bowl.

We had this debate last season, don't know if we ever found an answer. If we win the belt, do we HAVE TO go to New Orleans? Say we finish with 8 wins and we pretty much know we can get into another bowl which pays more, can we pass on New Orleans and give it to someone else and await a better bowl?

I'd rather go to St. Pete, closer to home, better payout, a chance to showcase ourselves on ESPN and show that we too can pack the house for a bowl game. Expenses would be very low considering the band and players can take buses up there and a student trip wouldn't be out of the question because again it's only about a 3-4 hr trip across the state

I don't know why we wouldn't rather go to St. Pete.  Depending on who we play, it would pretty much be a home game for us.
