I was behind the posts for that FG attempt and saw it was just inside the upright.

I guessed the crowd at around 15,000. It was loud and the student support (could have been better without 60,000 curse words within earshod of children and others who didn't appreciate it) was great.

The students need to be on the sideline. Mixing the GA public and students is becoming a problem. They were pretty out of control - fine for their own section, but not good among families and older folks.

Great game. Fantastic weather. Excellent fan support. Solid win.

Also I have heard from a few different people in the student section, that Warley's FG was actually good although the ref's said no good. Few friends said they were sitting right there and that ball went through.. Anyone care to clarify?

Yeah I have no idea what happened but I was in the end zone and it looked good to me. I think the refs botched the call but it's done now and we still won anyway.

seriously everyone we have some problems coming ahead if we cant figure out this thing called defense.  Next week has me worried….we cant play this way against Mich State, and now that Minn is 2-0 we cant play them the same way.  An offensive shootout isnt going to always work…..we need the d to figure out how to play……no more single arm tackle attempts…..PLEASE!

Yeah, seriously. Frantz Joseph had some great tackles and then sometimes he just couldn't wrap at all. I also don't understand our cornerbacks and safeties clearly seeing the ball come to a WR and waiting until they catch it before making the tackle. Guess they're concerned if they jump out to intercept or bat it down and miss, they won't have enough time to recover and make the tackle.

Was this game on TV today?

Our Defense is not very good.  We will need to make alot of improvements defensively, if we plan on making a Bowl game.

First game with real seats, must say I really enjoyed it over the student section.

About the game… I feel like everyone else. We are in T-R-O-U-B-L-E. Period.

But,  one thought:

Does anyone know why we play a 3-4?  3 down lineman every play allows ZERO pressure and 5-7 yards a pop on the ground.  Makes no sense to me.  Passing downs and third and long I could see but not every down.

And no one gets their hands up at the line of scrimmage when the QB passes.  Fudementals and execution simply are not there…. and it's glaring.

At least the weather was nice!

Watching UAB's quarterback run up the middle like that made me miss Laskowski, who would've taken his head off.  And what's up with the CB's?  Polo was god awful.  A little more accuracy and UAB would've had at least two touchdowns to wide open receivers.  This defense—-well, what more can be said… :(

Is our defensive scheme simply not playing aggressive…are we playing zone to prevent big yardage plays?  If so is this a problem of coaching and not the players?  Something needs to be figured out soon or MSU and Minny will be shootout that we will end up losing with mistakes on special teams. 

I don't think the defensive scheme is the problem.  I think it is more of us missing 3 key defensive linemen (St. Claire, Council, and Givens) and having 2 inexperienced safties in the secondary.  Hopefully we get those players back soon and the safties are quick learners.  Also, we have to force turnovers.  The defense has yet to force a tunover.  That was a huge part of their success last year.

Overall, I thought the D made some positive strides this week.  The pass rush was better(not great, but improved from week 1), and they did make some key stops when they needed them the most.  And the special teams didn't help matters by turning the ball over once inside our 30 on a kickoff and then allowing the punter to pick up a first down on a pretty obvious fake punt.  More importantly, they still had too many dumb penalties.  Sometimes you can't do anything about a pass interference call, but there is absolutely no excuse for having multiple personal fouls.  This defense isn't good enough right now to give the opponent 15 free yards AFTER the play is over.  It's such a simple thing to correct, hopefully the coaches drill that into them this week.

The safeties are young & it showed & were having a really tough time out there, you can't allow receivers to continually get behind you - could have easily gotten burn a few times.

It's about knowing your assignments & trusting you teammates being where they are suppose to be.

The defense had some good moments - just never could get rewarded for it, bad penalties & especially when the opposing team taught you by going for it of fourth down just about every time & converting.  That can frustrating for a defense & mess with your head.

With no pass rush, our young Safeties are put under a lot of pressure and will have to grow up FAST.
