Re: Thoughts on UAB Game
I'm sorry if people with children get upset because they may hear profane language in their areas. This is something that happens at ALL sporting events. If it's nonstop F bombs then have security address it, if it's the occassional curseword then just deal with it. However, FAU, like all universities has a family section for games. I would suggest that be the area that you sit in.
I've been to almost every single FAU home game since Slippery Rock and save for the Colgate game and USF last year, almost every game reminds me of being in a library. Our "fans" have no enthusiasm, it seems as if coming to the game is just something to do in between lunch and dinner.

I have been coming to the FAU football games for the past 5 years. At my first game I was completely disappointed in only the students standing and cheering during the game. I have been to several different football games all over the country, in schools 10 times bigger than FAU and schools smaller than FAU. Their fans have more team spirit and heart than you are claiming to have. At these games, people from 2-92 are on their feet for the whole game from kick off until the last second of the game, cheering on their offense and pumping up their defense. As an alumni of this school, it is freshing to see more of the alumni and sounding communities, getting involved and cheering. I feel if someone wants to stand for the whole game, let them. Everyone in that stadium has paid for their seat and they can stand or sit, as long as their are in their assigned spot. I witnessed this event you are speaking of from above and felt if you were having a problem you should move, this guy is acting like a true fan of cheering on his team. If you attended any of the away games or even the bowl game, everyone was on their feet from beginning to end. This is how it should be at home, especially since it's OUR FIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the board, Lady Owl 05.
I find it interesting that your first post is to defnd this "true fan."
If you read my post again, you will see I never mentioned anything about him standing and cheering. I was not directly behind him so that was not my issue.
I commented he was drunk, obnoxious, and crude. What ruined the game for me was having to hear him scream at surrounding fans and calling them F'ing douche bags. And stating that these Boca people all have d*cks up their a$$es. Sorry to restate the crude statements but I do not want anyone that is reading this (hopefully the administration) to think for one minute that this incident is all about this "true fan" standing up and cheering.
And I don't want to sound like the church lady. I tailgate and have cocktails and know all the swear words as well. This incident will not and should be tolerated at any FAU event. Guess what? This was youth day. FAU is trying to make some events, family events.
Is this the kind of true fan FAU wants to build on? I think not.
Some of the loyal fans in this area did leave the game early. I wonder why?

So are you telling me this guy just started making these statements for no reason?
No. I am saying he made these comments because he was drunk, obnoxious, and crude. Read my post again.
Me thinks you were with him because no one in that section was finding the antics entertaining. Had everyone thought they were, I certainly would move to another section. If I am in the minority in the section, then I should be the one to go.
Even this guys "buddies" left early, not just those in the near vicinity. Some of his buddies were great, trying to calm him down. In the end, they were embarrassed as well.
Finally, I will part with this:
I could care less that people get drunk and cheer and have a great time. That is exactly what I want to do. This true fan ruined a game for many, many people. It was not necessary. It had nothing to do with college football or team spirit. That is a shame. If that makes you proud, I am not too shocked.

Don't make statements for people you don't know.

As for the interference call, it was absolute bull, the ball fell 10 yards short of any receiver for one, and the receiver was hit after the ball hit the ground worst it would have been was an unsportsmanship call and that would have been a stretch.
The Offense mixed it up very well and I believe they will get even better. I thought the ability to move the ball on the ground was a big improvement and I know the UAB D isn't the best and what a better time to work on the running game. Rusty is Rusty and even under pressure he didn't push his passes. Great job Rusty and the O-line. Wow, the receiver's were made some great catches and watching the O was fun the D was nerve racking. The O gets an A+
Special Teams was, well another area that needs some work I give them a C
All in all other than being one of the hottest games I've ever been to it had a great atmosphere. Fans were great the student section was unbelievable and load. The band, did a great job. and the Dance Team and Cheer Squad. Great Home Opener.

I dont know if any of you saw but during our halftime show two girls ran straight down the field in the middle of the band marching and playing. I have heard that nothing was done to them but I hope that is not the case. :-\
I saw it, and it was almost like surreal…i actually had to ask the guy next to me what was going on…he confirmed i wasn't seeing things…lol…never expected that at an FAU game!
Sure they were plastered…….
What was puzzling is why the FAU "officials" didn't notice them until they got to the 50 yard line!?

And therein lies the problem! Everyone thinks they are entitled to do their own thing even if it annoys someone else. If everyone paid equally for their assigned seat, the people sitting behind someone standing are not having the same game experience as the person blocking their view. And you're suggesting the ones who choose to sit should be the ones to move? It doesn't mean they are less of a fan because they choose to sit. It also doesn't mean they aren't cheering, just not standing the whole game.
