Thoughts on UAB Game

So are you telling me this guy just started making these statements for no reason? I find this hard to believe. Someone had to provoke this action. The reason people were leaving was because they always leave the game early when we are winning or losing. Very few fans stay to the end. As someone else has stated in an earlier post, if you don't want to hear the language, move to the family section. 105 isn't the family section. And the youth that you are referring to are the ones that are going to be funding this football program and they are the ones that are trying to bring the same type of atmosphere as they have at Miami, Florida, and Florida State. If you have attended any of those events, everyone is drunk and screaming, and those that don't want to hear it sit in the family section. This is college football not the opera.

I have been a season ticket holder since day one and always been in section 105 at Lockhart… I need to tell you that there are lots of families in this section including mine and others that we meet there regularly… This is a great section and although sometimes quiet we do find pockets of fans that love to cheer… if you were there you may have noticed my kids jumping up and down on the seats as we were pounding them to the "D-Fence" chant… now when fans (or single fan) begins cussing and swearing non stop and at their own fans for that matter, it is unnecessary. I did not see or here this particular person but would have been offended none the less… I am a die hard fan and I've been there before cussin and swearing at the other team but there is a place for that in the student section… I vaguely heard them swearing in the student section but I loved it because that is what college football is about… lol

Re: Thoughts on UAB Game

Well, like most guys, I think recruiting next year needs to address some front seven problems. The middle of our defense was extremely vulnerable.

Officiating was horrible. They were holding all day long, and only one was called……and that pass interference call was atrocious. The ball hit the ground before any contact was made!!!

As far as unruly fans, sometimes it just happens. Best advice I can give you is to e-mail Chris Flood, [email protected]. She might be able to help you…..

My GameDay Thoughts:

- Great crowd
- Great performance by the O
- Poor performance by the D
- Alcohol, as long as it legal, will continue to be consumed (sometimes excessively)
- Great day for a game
- My tailgating experience went off without a hitch

Watching UAB's quarterback run up the middle like that made me miss Laskowski, who would've taken his head off.  And what's up with the CB's?  Polo was god awful.  A little more accuracy and UAB would've had at least two touchdowns to wide open receivers.  This defense—-well, what more can be said… :(

I was standing next to Chris L. during the game….he was disappointed at the D to say the least.  I'm sure if he could have suited up and jumped in he would do it in a heartbeat.  I really hope that our defense can plug some of the holes on the line and start wrapping up when they tackle…it could be a tough couple of weeks if they don't come around on the fundamentals.

As for the unruly fan in 105, I saw the disruption and while I can totally understand being frustrated by being asked to sit down at a football game, he certainly could have dealt with it in a more adult manner.  There is plenty of room in the stadium to relocate if you want to stand and be rowdy.  I stand every game but I go to the back row where I won't ruin anyone else's view.  If the stadium were sold out and you didn't have any other options I could understand getting upset at someone trying to squelch your enthusiasm but that is not the case at Lockhart.
I think there is a silver lining.  These types of issues are all part of growing pains which means that we are at least growing and not stagnating.  I was happy to see the student attendance and it was great to hear the noise we all were able to generate on 3rd down defensive stands.  I hope that attendance continues to improve this season.

No.  I am saying he made these comments because he was drunk, obnoxious, and crude.  Read my post again.

Me thinks you were with him because no one in that section was finding the antics entertaining.  Had everyone thought they were, I certainly would move to another section.  If I am in the minority in the section, then I should be the one to go.

Even this guys "buddies" left early, not just those in the near vicinity.  Some of his buddies were great, trying to calm him down.  In the end, they were embarrassed as well.
Finally, I will part with this:

I could care less that people get drunk and cheer and have a great time.  That is exactly what I want to do.  This true fan ruined a game for many, many people.  It was not necessary.  It had nothing to do with college football or team spirit.  That is a shame.  If that makes you proud, I am not too shocked.

Don't make statements for people you don't know.

You are right.  I will only make statements for myself.  It sounds like you are a friend of this misguided "fan," and I will not hold his actions against you, SIP.  But please pass this message to him:

Hey brainiac:
How do you think we get millions of dollars to build a stadium?

We get it by building a fan base in Boca Raton with people that enjoy going to the game that have lots of money.  These are the same people you call F'ing D-bags at the games, every game.  Then when you wake up the day after a game in a pool of your own vomit, you say (while slurring): Why can't we get people to donate money to our stadium?

Just something to ponder.  Section 105 also is home to some trustees, and FAU Foundation leaders (those that raise money for the stadium).  You don't think there are invited guests in that section that are there representing their companies to decide if they want to put their name on our stadium?  You don't think there are fans there that are not alumni that have millions of dollars that are deciding whether to donate a chunk of change?

I promise you they are there.  Hopefully they want to come back and be a part of something great.

I will also tell you that in Section 105 there are parents of the players that sit there.  These same parents get a bit annoyed when spirited fans are cheering the team on and people are telling them to sit down and shut up.

I will also tell you it is not polite for people to put their hands on other people without their permission.  And those people that want to continue to do that usually get what they deserve.

I observed exactly what I'm speaking of, so don't go about touting yourself as someone who is free of blame.  It seems that whatever comments were directed at a particular couple were deserved.

Very interesting.  This kid must have had people put hands on him last year as well, because he disrupted games last year.  Same guy.  Same antics.  We thought maybe he grew up over the off season.  Nope.

I have made my points.  I'm done.  The university has identified him.  Problem should be resolved.  I have no problem moving so I can enjoy my beloved FAU Owls.  I called to be relocated.  The office said several have called in to complain about the same person (At least 10 season ticket holders by 10am).  If the kid wants to grow up and represent my university proudly and respectfully and concentrate on the game and not insult everyone that can make this stadium go through, then let's play some football and move on.

The saddest part in all this is we have stayed on subject:  Thoughts on UAB Game.  We should be discussing the lack of defense, and how great Rusty is, and not have to deal with unnecessary nonsense like this.

Go Owls!!!
