Re: Ticket Prices

Ticket Prices

I'm alittle worried about student on campus. I know there are a few signs around and some flyers up, but not in places that there should be. There is a brown one underneath the counter when you leave the caf, and you can barely see it. I've seen like one other one and thats about it. I think that there needs to be BIG signs around..ESPECIALLY in the Breezeway. And not just little, hand painted signs. Like REALLY nice signs that say "FAU SUNBELT CHAMPS!" and "BUY YOUR TICKETS FOR THE NEW ORLEANS BOWL TODAY!" I bet most people don't even know what bowl we are going to. This is kind of discouraging, I think that we could have easily sold our alottment of tickets for UF if it was advertised correctly, for insance, putting signs in the breezeway. There are no signs in the breezeway for this game. There are still banners for freaking Rock The Owl!!! Take that down and put this stuff up! Yes, I know that signs cost money, but c'mon, people need to be aware of these things. IMO, we are at the point where we need to make it as easy as possible for students to get tickets on account of our program rising in interest. If this was something that happened every year and people knew it would sell out right away, we wouldn't have this problem. We need to have to people can see that tickets are for sale, and go pick them up immediately, or at least order them, since they don't get mailed till the 14th.

Isn't that something that the Student Government does? It's barely been a week, but I think the SGA will step up, or at least they should.

The handmade banner signs you are referring to – like the one in the caf – were made by me with materials donated by SGA. I was mad on Monday when I came to campus at 2 pm and nothing was up anywhere. So I went into the SGA office and said, "Look, we need to tell people that we won. Let everyone on campus know." I made four banners. I wish I had made more. They look smaller now and I should have made darker letters. Oh well.

We also printed up the "OWLS BOWL-BOUND" and the other articles and put them around campus. We were also hoping to get balloons and red/blue beads to give out.

Mind you, this has all been students/SGA and not Athletics. Athletics did not put up a single banner. There is not a single advertisement on campus that I'm aware of that tells people about the bowl game. Perhaps they commissioned one and they're going to put it up soon but I doubt it.

They're not going to sell out their ticket allotment. I'm not sure what the deal is with Athletics marketing but the students don't know about the New Orleans Bowl… and we won back on Saturday.

It might not matter. Nearly all the students I talked to said they can't make it. Hate to say it but that's how it's looking right now.

I was glad that there was at least something. And please don't think that I was trying to be-little your signs or anything like that. I'm glad that you did something about there not being any signs up. You did more than me. I just think that Athletics needs to step it up. Next week is finals week and after that, there will be no one on campus.

Re: Ticket Prices

I can't believe that athletics didn't have something planned in advance of the Troy game so all they had to do was say "print it" and pick it up 24 hours later. I would have figured that banners, flyers, and other types of promotional material would have been designed and ready to go. It took less than 24 hours after the victory for the New Orleans Bowl t-shirts to become available online. I don't see why the athletic department couldn't have planned in advance. The excuse that all this is new doesn't fly. The university has had athletic teams for a long time and the promotion involved for football shouldn't be any different than that involved for any other sport other than it should be on a bigger scale.

No, no, I understand and I agree with you. I thought Athletics would have something up on Monday. I just had a 6 pm final today and so far all I've seen has been my banners… oh, and a couple of flyers sitting on the counter at the bookstore.

EDIT: I got this in my email… anybody else get it?

That's a joke, right?

Re: Ticket Prices

No, it isn't a joke. Most schools do something called "plan in advance." Unfortunately FAU doesn't subscribe to that practice. You go anywhere else in the country and things are out the next day. For example, Southern Illinois University is in the semi-finals of the 1-AA playoffs. There are radio commercials galore, banners not only on campus (at every entrance), but also all over town. If a 1-AA school can get it done, why can't FAU???

Re: Ticket Prices

I was being sarcastic.  FAU's lack of planning and organization isn't a surprise to anyone.  At least they are consistent.

Consistently bad.

I really wish they could get their act together.  I know they have no money in the budget for anything but developing a email list to keep everyone informed ( I know they have a sign up on the alumni site, but no one knows it's there) and actually using it.  Thinking a few days ahead doesn't cost anything either.
