If they sat sideline, there'd be no incentive to become a donor and buy tickets after graduation =)

FYI, USF sticks all 12,501 students in the end zone… or the corners of the upper deck.

The dunghole called Lockhart Stadium will be a thing of the past, when we move into our new on-campus stadium in 2010. Also, there is no upper deck at Lockhart.

who cares if the students have to sit in the frickin endzone?
because they PAY THE BILL…why should they sit in the "cheap seats"?
Do you??
Try sitting there once and you'll agree…
and to all the posters who justify this lame decision by citing the vast majority of other Univesities behaving as such i say this:
Unil those University's fund their athletic programs with PRIVATE donations and not "TAX AND SPEND" based "student fee" pipelines they should be ashamed of themsleves for employing this unjustified, non rationale management "strategy" of a resource they are simply "managing" and did nothing to contribute towards financially themselves…

I read something about we should have given visitors side tickets to students? Don't agree with that. Thats why its called the VISITORS side.
Actually, most visitors get stuck in the corner. Rarely do visiting teams have sideline tickets between the 20s. Most often they are corner endzone seats.
As for Lockhart, it seems that most of the seats are in the endzones. It is a poor set-up.
Tickets being at a premium is a normal thing. People were saying two weeks ago that they hope the new stadium will sell out so that tickets will be hard to come by. Now people are complaining that tickets are hard to come by at Lockhart. Where is the logic??
If we are so concerned about students being guaranteed tickets what happens if basketball games start selling out?? Should we all of a sudden build an arena large enough to hold the entire student body (25,000+)???

The way things are now FAU students pay some of the highest athletic fees in the country! *If* FAU is so successful that games sell out the first thing that should be done is to reduce student athletic fees. Indeed, the #1 priority of the athletic department should be to replace student athletic fees with private donations, as other universities do. Once that happens, students will no longer be paying for tickets to each game.
The entire budget of the athletic department is about $14 million. Student athletic fees account for more than $8 million. This is not like most other universities, except FIU (which has a much larger student body and FTE to draw from).

We can go back and forth all day about student fees, etc. The point is that students shouldn't be guaranteed tickets. It is first come, first serve. That is how it works at most schools.

Most school don't get ~60% of their athletic budget directly from student athletic fees. The system put in place this week (having students pick up tickets ahead of time) seems very reasonable, though.
