Tickets for Saturday

Hi Jim,

I emailed you through the site so check that out.

Without knowing what you like to do, one possible day could be:

Start off having breakfast at the Boca Beach House on Palmetto Park Road just east of the Intracostal (get the home fries). From there you can walk over to South Beach (no relation to the Miami hotspot) for awhile. Afterwards, you can head up A1A to Gumbo Limbo, the free nature center, to check out South Florida wildlife including new large saltwater fish tanks and a boardwalk OR you could head north on Federal Highway to Mizner Park (that's our "downtown" area) to have lunch/walk around and check out the shops. Yard House and the New York Grilled Cheese Company (across the street from Mizner) are both great options for food in that area (though they are technically chains). If you want something more specific to the area, you can head north of that to Mississippi Sweets (also available at the stadium, albeit with a more limited menu), Tucker Duke's burgers and/or check out Beer Trade Co, which offers beer and comfort food.

From there it's over to campus for the game via 20th Street.

If you want to go out after the game, I'd recommend you visit downtown Delray Beach on East Atlantic Avenue. Bars, restaurants, clubs... the whole shebang.

Enjoy!

Just got home. My daughter, who is not a dummy ,is at the house with her friend from school, trying to log on and get student tickets. I hope no one on this site was involved in this,  but she said whoever set up the online ticketing must not know how to simplify things. They got them. But they then wanted to show me the steps involved to get them. Less steps might increase attendance. Put free ticket first and second "guest" ticket second.

Ugh. You may remember when this online student ticket system first got instituted and we basically cried "that's cart before the horse!" But FAU wanted students to get used to logging in and securing their tickets ahead of time for situations like the Miami game when interest was higher than actual student seats.

Still, what I learned about FAU students is that explanations - such as why there's no convenient parking on campus in the first two weeks of class, or that the Breezeway renovation doesn't exist to punish them by making them have to walk around - just goes over their head. They don't care why, they just care that it's not easy.

To be fair, we probably all thought that way about issues with FAU as underclassmen even if we don't remember it that way.

Hey guys. Just a quick recap of my experience at the stadium, game, pre-game etc.

We headed up to Boca a little later than I expected so I didn't get to see much of the town like I wanted/planned to. We went to Mizner Park and walked around for a little bit. Then we drove over to the campus and parked in a cash lot. There were a bunch of SIU fans parked there as well so it was fun for the brief time we spent there before the walk to the stadium. Outside the stadium, we took park in a few of the activities set up. I also talked to some folks at the SIU Alumni Association tailgate which was nice.

We went into the stadium about a half hour before the game. Real nice stadium! I loved the fact that every seat had a back to it as well, I was never uncomfortable during the game. I sat next to a FAU freshman and his father. They were really nice and fun to converse with during the game. The game itself was entertaining. Neither team could stop the other most of the time. Other than one FAU fan in the row in front of me (who said something stupid to me as we got up to leave, even though I didn't say a word to the guy the whole game) every FAU fan greeted me and welcomed me to FAU and the stadium. Overall I had a great time at the game. The result could have been better haha but it was a fun game to watch. I bought a FAU shirt after the game. I'll be cheering for y'all the rest of the way for sure.

Is attendance usually that low? Or did the factors such as FCS opponent, Labor Day weekend etc. drop the attendance on that day?

Good luck the rest of the way.

Glad you enjoyed the area and the stadium. Would like to apologize for the fan. Not all of us are like that.  as far as attendance goes, yes the holiday weekend had something to do with it but also the fact is South Florida fans are a little fickle when it comes to sports. unless teams are doing well then they think there are better things to do, but FAU has been improving on outreach towards fans and everyone else about trying to get them to attend. Hope you guys do well the rest of the way.

Both of those are valid points plus coming off of back-to-back 3-9 seasons. Still trying to build  a fan LOYAL base which is what you saw. Gonna have to start winning or at east be entertaining to get more of the local and S. Florida community here, except to the UM type of games. THAT was a sell out and the VAST majority were rooting for the Owls and not the U - actually kinda surprising, but a great sign!

Glad ya had a good time and we ARE real proud of our stadium! Ya always get a sour grape among a crowd so sorry about that one!

Thank you for coming, the vast majority of us are good people so I am glad you enjoyed your time here.

We have been struggling the last few years and South Florida is fickle, but the momentum is building.

GO OWLS!

Glad you enjoyed yourself Jim and we appreciate the compliments. Your team came to play and even in a loss was very respectable. I hope you have a great season moving forward!

Regarding the attendance, we usually get about 10k for conference games and 15k if we have a good opponent. We've only filled the stadium for the opening game and vs Miami, if I remember correctly.

Still, Saturday's attendance was low for us. I don't know the main cause if there was one. I was surprised by the attendance and I've been at home games for almost a decade now. Wish you had seen more of a rocking environment. The game was certainly lively enough!

I would suspect playing an FCS opponent has a little to do with it.

The best attended games are usually FIU and Marshall.

That Miami game was PACKED.  It was awesome.

Would love to see more in-state OOC games.
