Tidbit on Stan Drayton

Post

You know… it's been awhile since we've gotten this snippy with each other.  A lot of small skirmishes being fought all across this board. But debate is good. It helps refine what we know and what we don't.

Not a whole left that hasn't been said already.

I remain skeptical of this decision though obviously at this point stumping for Wright is a lost cause. Drayton may keep him on in some capacity but he won't be the HC anymore. That ship has sailed.

Drayton will be handed a 6-6 team that should acquire bowl eligibility again next year because a lot of the same pieces (like Quez) are there. In doing so, he'll look like the right decision and the even-keeled "whatever Chun decides" folk will rejoice along with the "jaded Wright folk" like myself because at the end of the day, we all want to win.

If we don't win for some reason, the board will be split again into the people who say, "See? We made the wrong choice" and the people who say, "It's his first year, every coach has a transition period in which they're allowed to underperform."

And we'll just get snippy at each other all over again.

Aren't messageboards great?

I was wrong in that Ohio State does not use pro-style however it is a power running game.

"I have our version of the spread offense, which is a very physical, power run offense. And it's always really been that way." Thats Urban Meyer being quoted on espn.com

Ohio State Spread Option is a run first spread offense.

Ohio State is 4th in running and 91st in passing.

Is that Good enough Dusky???

:Big-Grin:I give coaches and players the benefit of the doubt. Athletic directors are university
employees who are well paid and should be judged by their actions and the outcomes
of those actions.

I give  Chun credit for lobbying hard to get us into Conference USA and how he quickly fired Pelini.

However I am deeply unsatisified with Chuns coaching search so far.

Except you have no idea who was contacted, who was interviewed, and how those interviews went.  So how can you be satisfied or unsatisfied with a search if you don't know anything about it?  I mean, we all like Brian Wright and you can be disappointed that he didn't get the job, but if you trust Chun to find the right person, then you have to let him make the decision.

The big if remains - since we all saw a lot of positives with Wright and Chun decided to go in a new direction, it is difficult to trust Chun's judgement on this decision. Not that Chun has done anything wrong, on the contrary, he seems quite competent but his primary experience is with OSU so he could be clouded by the big school experience. FAU needed someone like Wright who would really own the opportunity and want to make everything better. Not sure a big school football coach will know how to impact all of the little things that need attention to make FAU more competitive. Once you get to the big schools there are so many people who take care of so many things that the new HC of FAU will now need to do for himself. The next head coach needs to be ready to roll up their sleeves and get to know every player and take care all of little things that will make a big difference like Wright did, to make everything better at FAU.

I agree that the search has been somewhat "safe" so far.  No big stretches or reaches by Chun, but I think that Drayton is a quality coach.  He has a pretty solid track record, and lets be honest we don't have the funds to draw someone larger in….or the fan support for that matter.

Im a Wright fan 100%…

With that said, nothing would make me happier than Drayton coming in here and proving me wrong…

While all signs indicate Drayton will be the guy, now comes this from coachingsearch:

FAU: College coaches around the nation are wondering why the process at FAU has moved so slowly considering the job opened during the season.  Keep an eye on Eastern Illinois head coach Dino Babers, who withdrew from the Eastern Michigan search earlier in the week. Eastern Illinois plays in the FCS playoffs tonight on ESPN2 against Towson at 8pm ET

Interesting.  I see no connection to OSU or Chun with Babers:

It would make sense that the search is dragging on if they are waiting until after the EIU game tonight…but who knows at this point!

No news about this up here. The campus is about an hour away.
EIU is doing good again this year. I saw Tony Romo beat the Owls up here 11 years ago. They also had a good rb that year.

Dino Babers, has a great record at EM. Maybe he will be an assistant head coach/OC ?
He only makes about 170K a year.
