All smiles on signing day

ROYAL PALM BEACH - Randy Richards is staying local. The 6-foot-2 Royal Palm Beach offensive lineman signed a letter of intent this morning with Florida Atlantic.
The senior watched as FAU earned its victory in an overtime 39-32 thriller against Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl last December. He said he could not be happier to be playing for the only school in the state of Florida to win a bowl this year.
"It makes you feel good to know that you're playing for a program that's coming up," Richards said.
Should this writer get paid for this article?
I contacted Sun-Sentinel Spoke directly to the Sports editor, apologized for the mess up. The guy is an intern, therefore he does not get paid. But I urge all of you to speak up whenever we see an error about FAU. GOD FORBID they mispell Timmy Teabow's name.

Marcus' latest blog update says he will be on ESPN Radio 760 at around 7pm to talk Owls recruiting. Gotta love when we get some air time (even if it is with Evan Cohen who deserted FAU).
Marcus also says on his blog that Xavier Stinson didn't enroll for spring semester. While I hope his knee is healthy in time for summer workouts, that's gonna be a huge disadvantage for him not to be able to go thru spring practice. Looks like he could be red-shirted for this season after all.

University School's Michael Barasch, who set a Broward record this season with 2,071 yards, signed a letter of intent with Florida Atlantic on Wednesday.
''I think Michael has an exceptional work ethic. he's a character individual, and he'll be receptive of the opportunity and workload that coach [Howard] Schnelleberger has for him,'' Suns coach Roger Harriot said. ``He'll be an exceptional addition to FAU. I think he'll have a very successful career at the collegiate level.''
University School, in just it's second year of football, had four other players sign letters of intent on Wednesday: Nima Khavanin (Harvard), Peter Jean-Francois (Northeastern), Michael Weiss, (Washington University, Missouri), and Josh Mandel (Oberlin College).
''It's unbelievable accomplishment for this school,'' Harriot said. ``You would think, typically, that a school just starting out and building and going in the right direction would take three to five years. For us to have the ability to send kids off to college in just a year is extraordinary.''
I believe S-S interns are paid, but not much. I know someone in a reporting class right now. That article would have garnered an "F".

Florida Atlantic's recent on-field success has translated in at least two new players, as Hollywood Hills linebacker Alex Pattee and wide receiver Amos Wood signed letters of intent to play for Florida Atlantic.
''The decision was up in the air until this morning. I was leaning toward FIU, but I thought back to what the coaches at FAU have been telling me, and I just put my trust in them,'' Pattee said Wednesday. ``They won the Sun Belt this year, they're looking to do better in the conference, and they're upgrading their facilities.''
Wood entered signing day having orally committed to Middle Tennessee, but early Wednesday morning he informed the Blue Raiders that he would be attending FAU instead.
''Location. That's really what it all came down to,'' Wood said.
Wood, who earned second-team All-Broward honors from The Miami Herald, said FAU's conference title and bowl win played heavily into his decision.
''It played a big role. They whipped Middle Tennessee this year, and they were the only Florida team to win a bowl this year,'' Wood said.
Three other Spartan football players signed with schools, as Adedji Adeoba chose Massachusetts, Calvin Francois signed with Troy, and Cody Jacobs signed with Weber International.

I'm really excited to see Keon Broxton play. Assuming he wants to stay here even if he gets drafted in this years MLB draft. Seems to be a pure athlete and a 6'6" SS/WR is something I look forward to seeing.
I hope he stays with us, those lakeland boys are FAST! I watched him play twice this past season, and I have never seen a team with so much speed. They had like a 53-game winning streak until my Kowboys beat them, and it was well deserved. I am looking forward to watching a couple of the Central Florida Players grow up owls. Septmember can't get here fast enough!
