Tomorrow's Press Conference...

Re: Tomorrow's Press Conference...

Tomorrow's Press Conference...

Had the opportunity to meet him today.

Very impressed. Answered all of my questions.

On the offense:

He is looking at 3-4 offensive coordinators, and knows what type of offense he wants - something he struggles to stop as a defensive coordinator.

I addressed him, "Coach, you're a defensive-minded coach, what are you looking for in your offense coordinator?"

His response, "I don't know that I'm a defensive-minded coach, I'm a football coach. I have always coached on the defensive side of the ball. I have my vision of what type of offense I want to run. I know what I have difficulties stopping and I know what type of offenses have driven me crazy as a defensive coach."

"I would like it [the offense] to be exciting and wide open."

On recruiting:

"Ill say this. At the University of Nebraska, we were national recruiters. I have spent quite a bit of time in Florida. We recruited Florida, Texas, and Los Angeles."

"Four years ago Bo [Pelini] asked me to go into LA and establish a recruiting base, and we didn't have one. I immediately set out to do that and now we have some of our greatest players at Nebraska are from the Los Angeles area. We established recruiting ties there and that worked well, so to speak that it feeds me information and I plan on coming in here and really reaching out to high school coaches. In fact some of the first calls I'm making when I leave this session is to some of the better known and respected high school coaches in Florida. "

On the program:

"I told the players yesterday, 'this is the last time we are going to mention 1-11, from this point on it's a new program and a new vision.'"

Re: Tomorrow's Press Conference...

Nice.  Hard not to be impressed so far.  I couldn't wait for this season to end….now I can't wait for next September!

Did he mention how soon he'd have a staff in place?  I'd imagine it'll be pretty quick with recruiting in full swing.

Did ask him this and he said as soon as possible. He was just hired this morning so I'm not sure he knows the exact logistics of him bringing in his guys.

After meeting Carl and hearing him speak today , I truly believe we have a good football coach.

He does have a good sense of humor.  The 1st thing he said was, "knowing how this business is, this is the honeymoon period, 6 months from now you might not be saying nice things about me."

Re: Tomorrow's Press Conference...

Looks like he is already winning over the FAU faithful.

He looks to be a good hire. I for one liked this hire from the beginning and I am very happy to see Pelini at FAU.

An interesting note is that Fresno State's Pat Hill was fired yesterday. He has an offensive background and he has already stated that he ready to keep coaching. Thinking about what he did at Fresno State, man he would be a good addition for FAU. This is not at all likely, but it makes for interesting discussion.

I feel so bad for Pat Hill. Guy had so many opportunities to take bigger jobs, but just never did. He had 17 wins over BCS programs  :o

So sad.

If you put it together and run the program to a higher level you get called a "Traitor" if you leave for a promotion to a higher salary and better job.

Yet if you stay and have a few bad seasons, you get the boot and can never get that opportunity again.

I dont blame guys for leaving, sometimes it's thier only shot at moving up.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: Tomorrow's Press Conference...

Really a bad deal for Hill. Without him people would have no idea who Fresno State is. He will land on his feet though. He is a very good coach and somebody will look to him to rebuild a program. Had he been fired a week or so earlier he definitely should have been in the conversations on this board.

Re: Tomorrow's Press Conference...

You guys are right about Pat Hill. He made Fresno the Boise State of California long before many people knew where Boise State was. In truth, Boise State might be the Fresno State of Idaho. I hope he lands somewhere good. His program is known for developing some pretty decent college QBs, including Trent Dilfer, David Carr and Tom Brandstater.
