Top 25 watch

Boise lost (big), and if one or two of the other teams in the high teens to 25 lose (OK State, Virginia, Minnesota, USC) that could pave the way for the Owls to get their first ranking.  No matter what, seems like the Owls have secured either a ranking or the first or second spot of “others receiving votes” with demolishing teams in the C-USA championship and the bowl game.

How big will that be for the program?

I was surprised Appalachian State struggled with UAB 31-17 compared to the beat down FAU gave UAB.

We should have been in that bowl against App

Virginia will lose to Florida. We need some of the bottom ranked teams to lose to teams with bad records

If it weren’t for that damn Marshall game we’d probably be in the top 25 already.

I was thinking about the same thing this morning. If FAU doesn't get in the top 25 in the final rankings, the Marshall game is the reason. Maybe it will happen.

49-6.

Hopefully voters consider that.

Hopefully those that vote can see that FAU improved as the season progressed and it finished the season as a top 25 team.

I think our chances of getting ranked are better than 2017 given our dominance over the last few games played.  2017 saw us demolish UNT once again but beat a lowly Akron on a Tuesday night which did not stand out.  I followed SMU all year like all Group of 5 schools because if they win and beat the establishment it helps us in the future with a fair chance at bigger tv deals, bowl payouts and a shot at a National Championship. SMU was serious,  they were a juggernaut in scoring and were ranked for better part of the year.

Ideally they should be at #25 and we dominated them on a Saturday  on ABC without Kiffin or our Mackey award winning consensus All-American.  For us to sneak in I think one if not both the service academy schools need to lose because they are playing Power 5 opponents desperate to salvage their season on a high.  The games to look at would be Navy losing to K-state, Air Force losing to Wash. st.,  UF beating Virginia,  TAM beating Ok. St.  And if BC beats Cincy that helps a lot.

There is a give or take here though TAM would have beaten a ranked team and are on the cusp like us  and K-state the same.  The eye test is we won the East division for CUSA, won CUSA, won the Boca Bowl, were 11-3 and played a playoff team hard as our first game, had our first Consensus All-American,  Kiffin left and we still beat SMU handily.  We surged at the right time, lets hope and see.  This is our time.

Navy beat SMU although that was a very close game. We blew out SMU without top two WRs. our unanimous consensus all American TE and even Keke LeRoy at linebacker. We had about 30 TDs not playing on Saturday.
