OK seriously why are we always asking for ideas for new/more traditions?  :-\ We have things that we as FAU do but will take time and more people doing them to be labeled a "tradition".

How about more people learn the the chants and words to the school songs like hey maybe the fight song, let's go owls, the defense chant, and the ALMA MATER that is played at the end of every game (even when they play horrible radio songs on top of it….that's just infuriating and RUDE!  >:().

More people should join in when the cheerleaders are doing cheers (again they say the words to any of the cheers to the above songs, pay attention or ask them what they words are).

Get to the games early for the Owl Walk, Rally Alley, Pre Game (lots of opportunity for crowd involvement/tradition building during the new pre game sequence)!

Making "traditions" is not just about "hey I have this great idea…." its about getting the FAU fan base to follow. I may not like "who let the owls out" but it is catchy and has stuck around so I think its time we just get over ourselves and accept it.

It time we stop trying to make new ones but actually build the ones we have currently!!!

Rant over.

I respectfully disagree. Most Div-I and even some Div-II football programs have dozens of traditions.  Simply saying we should stick with what we have and not come up with new ideas when the program is still so young isnt the right answer (though I understand your frustration).  I believe as an organized fan base we have an unique ability to brain-storm and start something.

Re: Traditions... We need them.

First off we have a lot of traditions people just don't open their eyes to notice.

Secondly what I'm saying is you can think of ideas all day long but if people don't participate then it will never be a tradition! Everyone wants to have a "traditional D-1" football atmosphere but if the rest of the fans don't participate then it will never be a tradition.

Do you actually do the chants? Do you know the words to the fight song? Have you ever been to rally alley? Have you gotten the people around you to make owl fingers and circle them over your head during kick offs? Are you bringing people to game and teaching them all of these things? Ect ect ect…….(*all rhetorical questions not meant at anyone in particular)

I'm not saying we can't have more traditions, but I thinks educating people about the ones we have should take priority.

Honestly how many of you actually know the words to the Alma Mater? Most schools I know of have their fans all sing it at he end of the game (and the football team actually stays for the playing/singing of it not running off the field).

Not to be harsh, but the owl fingers are lame.  No one knows what the hell they are.  They actually look more like a simulation for a vulgarity.

Re: Traditions... We need them.

I was sitting in the priority section for the games which I guess you could refer to as the more "mature" section. What I noticed was that the student section was clearly more pumped up for the game. Everytime something happened, it was like the priority section was just like, limp. They just want to sit on their butts and not be bothered by celebration. So new tradition: get drunk, loosen up, and have some fun! It's a college football game, if you're bothered by loud noises and excitement and then you should probably be at some restaurant eating the early bird special, not on our campus! Don't get me wrong, there were some people screaming in the priority section, but it was usually just profanities at the coaching staff and players. But I have a particular memory where I jumped up and cheered for something, while the student section was going crazy, and everyone around me just looked at me like I was insane or something. Get the sticks out of your butts ;D

Re: Traditions... We need them.

They could solve a lot of problems (including money) by selling beer throughout the entire stadium, that would certainly loosen everyone up.

Who keeps the profits of food/beverage/alcohol sales: FAU/us or Chartwells??

Also, what is in the football budget?

I think the students know what the hell they are, especially since a lot of students - even freshmen - are doing them in pictures around campus. The rest of the world will find out in time.

I love that we're the only school (so far) to tailgate for basketball. Glad to see SGA support that too. Hope it continues.

Wondering why "Bury the Burrow in Red" isn't a banner on the main FAU website. In my mind, that's a major oversight.

I think stomping the bleachers to make noise is a little different...that first game with a packed house, it sounded great...

Re: Traditions... We need them.

I think Owl Fingers are great. Yes, they me be tacky but what hand motion/signal/thing you do with your hands at football games isn't? What about the Gator chomp? Oh ya, THAT doesn't look dumb…but people don't think it's dumb because of how embedded it is in tradition. I think Owl fingers is actually one of our most established traditions and I'm happy about that.
