Troy-FAU game moving to weekday?

Troy-FAU game moving to weekday?

The word from Troy today is that FAU will host Troy on that Tuesday (yes, ugh) night. Troy has open dates before and after.

Please don't do it, FAU!

No one even know college ball is played on that night. The visiting fans (many, I have heard) will not come, only local fans who can get off work early will come to Lockhart, it will look terrible on TV and the ratings for the national game will be abysmal.

When is the last time the average football fan thought, "Oh, it's Tuesday night. Let me switch over to ESPN2 to see if there's a college game on"?

Tuesday is ICKY. I could understand Thursday and Friday better.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Thurs would be better, Friday would be best, but if it's for TV time, we will have to deal with Tues.  That means two days off of work for me, which sucks.  As far as viewership goes, when college ball is in season, I have come to realize that the season is short, and I will watch any game on thats on, no matter who it is.  I can't do that with the pros though, if it's not the fins it's hard for me to watch an NFL game.

Really?  I find that the fins games are the hardest ones to watch.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Friday would be the WORST day to play on TV. The people you want to impress the most are H.S. athletes who have their own game to worry about on Friday. Aside from that honestly how many people are going to show up to a game on a Friday night? Especially the fans down here, most of them would rather go out to Riverfront on a Friday night then go to a football game

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Jab,

Very true, didn't think about it that way.  I was just being selfish and thinking that a Friday night game would work out good for me (Three day weekend!).  As far as fans go, no matter what time or day it is we always have trouble getting people to go.  Maybe on a friday we could some type of happy hour beer special or something.  Oh yeah and maybe advertise the game a little.  If anything changes this year, I hope advertising gets better.  Well, we'll have to see what the final word is on this game when it gets closer, we will deal with it.  I know the Owl faithful will all be there no matter what.

Of course, the people here and the faithful will be there. But that accounts for around 1,000 people. O.K, maybe 4,000.

FAU cannot grow its fan base by playing games at non-traditional times and making it even more difficult than normal to attend. Selling out for TV is not worth it.

The casual fan (who is needed to fill the stadium) will not show up, I am sad to say.

this is COMPLETELY out of the university and the athletics department's hands…

these instances are ESPN approaching the conference and offering a game… the conference is NEVERRRRR going to turn down a national television game… NEVER EVER going to happen

The Belt TELLS the schools when they are playing conference games

nothing anyone can do about it

Re: Troy-FAU game moving to weekday?

I just have one question…not arguing here, but consider this, if your surmise is true:

Why is ESPN contacting FAU?

"Folks-

ESPN has notified us that they wish to televise two conference games next year involving FAU. This provides another great opportunity for our University to be showcase to the nation. However, the new schedule does impact Parent’s Weekend & Homecoming. Attached is the revised schedule for your review.

Thanks,

Dexter LaMont"
