I think were all saying the same thing. Maybe I phrased mine a little different. Hopefully they learned from the losses.

UL Monroe Predictions Thread

All 3 games the news paper articles covering the game had short 2 or 3 sentence quotes of some FAU players. Every article had the same theme. The guys came in thinking they were going to play gigantic, over powering, bone breaking teams. The last game I think it was Pinnick that said he was expecting a team of Paul Bunyons. After it was over those same players said it was less physical and more precise execution. Every one got their block, had their assignments. That is what I think FAU learned from these three games they would not have learned if they played lower D-1 teams.
IF, IF IF, FAU can avoid mistakes and have good special teams it will be a sure win. That means have UL Monroe start as near their 20 as possible or behind it.

Perfectly stated…..

I know that if we focus and have no mistakes we can pull off a win. I admit that I worry about the special teams but I think that our offense can come together for this game and win…

I agree with you Illinoisowl and the more experience these guys get playing together week in and week out, the better they are going to get. This school is just starting with traditions that began just five years ago and that legacy will continue with this group and the next group and so on. Hopefully the stadium will be built very soon and that in itself will propel this program like a booster rocket.

These guys have played schools with football programs combined reach well into the hundreds of years. FAU has 5. But they show a ton of heart and that is going to bring them together stronger as a team and will help them win games. A lot of these kids came from high schools with winning programs they know what it takes and what it means. Now they have to learn what it take on this level and I believe they are up for it.

We will meet some of these opponents next year and the year after. The teams may be a little more matched all the way down the line and the outcome may be a little different. You learn a lot about yourself and your buddies when your but is under fire and that is exactly what is going on with this program.

Think about this, they maybe undersized and may have been pushed around but not once did I see an Owl quit. Those young men fought right to the bitter end, odds against them but they kept fighting. You measure a mans character by what he does not what he says he's going to do. These guys are growing up fast and will learn to be better players.

We need to get as many people at the games as possible, especially at home show strong support.

I would rather see the team make the mistake in these OC games and learn from them - it doesn't help when you play over your head, the added pressure kind of leads to making those mistakes.

Hopefully, the guys will be more focused, knowing they are playing an opponent that is more equal to FAU and not so over powering, so the mistakes and execution should improve.

I also look to seeing the offense to be more productive - at least my prediction says so.

Some of the early posts in this thread discussed "over confidence". I personally don't think over confindence is a problem. What is related to overconfidence that is a problem is understimating the opponent and thinking the game will be a piece of cake. I think FAU benefited from that in prior years, BIG TIME.
Of course if the FAU players wanted to get the best advise in the world on how to win a game, they could read this board and get it. Right? LOL!!!! ;D

I think Schnellenberger is teaching them how to win. I noticed that in the previous 2 seasons. Most of them weren't big wins, but they were wins. They pulled stuff out at the last minute or the last qtr, what ever. They did what they had to do to score more points than the other team.

I'm pretty sure FAU will win this one against UL Monroe. And just the opposite. I think their confidence might be a little shaken after getting beat up 3 straight games. I think they'll walk out there, start playing and notice that they have improved. That's my prediction from 1400 miles away. 8-)

Illinoisowl, I couldn't agree more. Once they hit the field they will notice that they have improved. ULM won't seem as big, as fast, or as strong as their previous opponents. They might just find themselves having an easier time getting off blocks, making blocks, hitting the holes, shaking defenders, finding receivers, making tackles, etc. etc. etc. They probably won't know until they hit the field, but once they do it should become clear that they have improved from the three losses. GO OWLS!!!
