HARRIS MOVES UP INTO TIE FOR FIRST IN INTERCEPTIONS NATIONALLY

Nov. 8, 2004

Chris Harris of the University of Louisiana at Monroe intercepted another pass last Saturday and has moved into a tie for first place in the nation in interceptions.

Harris, a senior safety from Little Rock, Ark., intercepted a pass in the final minute Saturday night to clinch a ULM victory for the second time in three weeks. This one came at the five-yard line on the final play of the game Saturday night to preserve ULM's 32-25 victory over Utah State. Two weeks ago he intercepted a pass in the end zone with 57 seconds left to clinch a 17-13 victory over previously undefeated Florida Atlantic.

The interception against Utah State was the sixth one of the year for Harris and moved him from fourth place in Division I-A statistics into a tie for first with Chris Royal of Marshall and Charles Gordon of Kansas, all with 0.67 averages.

Harris now has 13 interceptions for his career, moving him into a tie for second place among ULM's all-time leaders with a pair of NFL veterans, Pat Dennis and David Dumars. Another former NFL player, Vic Minor (1976-79), is the leader with 15.
