Re: Unite and win

Unite and win

This is all well and good but let's not lose sight of what college football is about: MONEY.  THEY have it and WE need it.  The reason the Gators of the world (or insert top BCS team here) can pay us a million dollars to come up there is because they can make $5M for a home game.  If they trade that for a game in our brand new stadium, they stand to lose $5M.  That is not a good business deal for them.  They are not going to pay us big bucks for an away game and they are not going to make big bucks for an away game.  We NEED to have a couple big payouts per year to survive.

If you can solve this dilemma, then you may have something…

Re: Unite and win

If Florida refuses to come play us (or anyone else in our conference) then we don't sign up to play them.  That would force them to get OOC games from someone else, but CUSA prefers return games and so does the MAC so where do they go?  The Sun Belt is the only conference that gives so many money games without returns.  Even if its 2 for 1, its something, and we still get money from that.

Texas is willing to do what Florida isn't, why are they different?  Why are they willing to travel to Wyoming and UCF?  There are plenty of teams that are willing to do returns, we just have to find them and deal with them.

Re: Unite and win

NCAA needs to level the playing surface by having ALL teams have six (6) homes AND away games.

Some schools now have EIGHT (8) home games and most of the auto BCS teams have seven. Unfair playing advantage right away before the seasons even begin. Tough for the rest to have winning or even 6-6 records with the present system allowed by the NCAA.

You hit the nail on the head…centralized scheduling (with a bias towards regional match-ups) would do a lot for college ball.

That is a solution I think would help the situation.

Having the Sunbelt thumb their nose to BCS opponents if we don't always get a home and away is like spitting into a hurricane.  I will go out on a limb and say the BCS could care less about us and we need them to some extent.  If there is a rule today that says only one FCS team counts toward wins, then they can simply change that rule tomorrow.

Having the NCAA even the number of home games in the name of fairness makes sense to me.  Again, money rules, not fairness.

Re: Unite and win

Fairness doesn't rule because no team or conference is willing to stand up to the moneyed interests.  Your argument could have applied to the labor movement in the early 20th century, they were spitting into a Hurricane of moneyed interests…but they stood up for fairness…and got concessions.
