We should offer him our OC position.

Ummm…no thanks.

You're right.

Dodge's spread offense registered 24.8 points and 408.4 total yards per game and was widely praised

FAU is currently LAST in the SunBelt in offense.  His Defense was terrible, but there is no question about his offensive coaching abilities.

Who was widely praising his offense?  He went 6-37 with that "high-powered" offense. I know his defenses have sucked, but it's not as if he's looked at as some kind of offensive genius either.  I'm sure a lot of those yards were racked up after games were decided.

Anyway, FAU's offense has not been our problem…at least our offensive system is not the problem.  The offense was plenty good last year but the defense sucked and this year our offensive problems are due almost exclusively due to the O-line.  We don't need a new system….we need better players.

We really dont need better players to be successful in the SunBelt.

There are 2 glaring plays that legitametly have us at 1-4 as opposed to 3-2.  If Housler catches that wide open pass vs. UNT and we dont fumble the ball with game in hand against ULM we arent talking about talent.  However, our offense would still be dead last in the worst league in college football (according to the BCS anyway).

I wont even mention the fact that we would have had a 50/50 shot at Michigan State without that Van Camp fumble on thier 35.  Then the disaster at their two yard line to follow.

We dont need better players, we need better leadership from players and coaches.  The game deciding mistakes made by this team have been from senior players and the coach which is the worst part of all of this.

Similar problems to Minnesota with Brewster. Good offense and no defense.

I disagree.  Sure, if a few bounces go our way, we could be 3-2, but we are also a blocked FG from being 0-5.  It's real easy to blame the coaching staff (and they do deserve part of the blame), but at the same time, the coaches called the proper play at the end of the UNT game and Housler dropped the ball.  To me, it's all about talent and experience and we are lacking both right now in critical spots (mainly the OL and DL).

The bottom line is this has been a down year all the way around.  There is plenty of blame to go around.  Can't wait for 2011!

Re: UNT fires Dodge

Every season for EVERY football program a few bounces is always the difference.

That being said, the OL has been god awful.

Re: UNT fires Dodge

North Texas took a chance on Dodge and it didn't work, can't blame them really.  The guy was a very successful HS coach and we might be in a similar situation when Howard decides to hang it up.  You take a chance and hope that the success he had in HS can translate into college football.

I have to agree here.  A small sunbelt program like UNT, or in the possible near future us,  is not gonna have the ability or funds to draw a big name NCAA division I coach.  We can all dream that after Coach, we will pick up someone bigger and better, but it is highly unlikely.  I think we will have to follow UNT's plan and really just take a shot in the dark.  Maybe we could get a defensive or offensive coordinator from one of the bigger schools, but no SBC team is just gonna up and grab Nick Saban or Urban Myer.

Hopefully Dodge can go back to his HS job and live out life as a local hero on the HS level.

I don't agree with considering a HS coach for a head coaching job at the FBS level. There are plenty of coordinators, position coaches, and college coaches at the FCS, II, and III levels of college football that have college experience, are very qualified, and who would be dying for a shot to be a head coach at the FBS level (yes even with an SBC team). Pulling a coach from the HS ranks should not even be an option for FAU. I don't think any coaching decision should be a shot in the dark. Too many coordinators and position coaches with experience out there. I am confident that FAU will find a solid replacement for coach Schnellenberger.

Re: UNT fires Dodge

Bryan Harsin…Boise State OC, makes $240k per year, runs the greatest show on blue turf, also a QB coach, knows what solid recruiting looks like (I can't believe they get kids to come to Idaho to play football) and I think is an IDEAL candidate for replacing HS when this is over. That's my vote…
