I agree, SC will now totally overlook us before the Ol Miss game! heir offense is rough and will play a good Ga D this Sat.

IF we practice hard and rebound, we can take this one. It all depends on the players and their attitudes and I think they will respond and improve. How they play in front of 80K will be the test. For Rusty and the rest of the senior receivers, this is it, play good or show the scouts you can't play with the big boys!

This one is there for the taking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: .

Hootys issue is that we could not moved the ball or hit receivers even when, in all accounts, the QB was given 4-5 seconds to get rid of the ball. There is a fundamental problem when a group of guys who have played together for 3 years are not on the same page and the fact that they were playing NU has nothing to do with that. Even though most of us agree that we didn't have a realistic chance of winning the game, we had hope, but not a chance, there is a level of performance expectations that certain individuals just hasn't lived up to. I always expect players to not just show up but "compete". I view the game(s) from a coaches point of view and not from an emotional one. Anyone who has true knowledge of how the game is played looks at how a team wins /loses a game and the way we lost is of major concern to me. We won't compete with Troy, ASU or even Middle Tenn if we are unable to hit open receivers, punt the ball effectively, fair catch when you should fair catch, stop the run or stop believing our press clippings concerning how good we are and start playing up to the level that our press clippings say we are.  All of that is football 101. Hype is just that, hype. Well wishes is just that, well wishes and hope is just that, hope non of which can win you a game. Come Saturday afternoon, evening or night, football players must get out there and execute / perform and compete until the last whistle. If you don't do that, you have no chance of winning the conference or going to a bowl game.

Re: .

Is everybody through with the negative comments about our OWLS!  Come on guys, buck up!  Yes, we sucked!  Did we have some positive takeaways from the game, YES! ;)  It sucks that everybody watching sports center the next morning saw our score!  Looking at the stats, the score should have been be more like 38 to 24!  Nebraska is just as pissed at their team for letting us come into their house and move the ball on their defense.  The stadium was quite when Harmon caught the touchdown pass–they were thinking 14 to 7!  That was a touchdown pass–anyway lets not waist anymore time analyzing what could have been!  Let's look ahead!

All of you naysayers will be back on the bandwagon when we beat SC!  We have almost 2 weeks to lick our wounds and put together a great game plan.  Norwood seems to be the only bright spot on SC and they are definitely not worried about playing us!  ;)  SC's offense is lack luster at best!  We can do this!

Let's get it together!  This is our school we are insulting, these are young adults we are talking about ???  All I am saying is that many of you will be jumping back on the bandwagon very shortly!  Let's start looking ahead to SC, Troy, etc….

GO OWLS!

Hooty isn't bashing and he certainly isn't a banwagoner. I have a vested interest in the Owls success. But again, when we put emotions aside and look at it for what it is, we are singing the same ole song year to year. Bottom line is, either we are ready to run/play with the big dogs, which according to all the news print we are suppose to be at least ready to compete, or we just need to stay on the porch and be content with mediocrity.

there's a big difference in losing a game 35-24 and 49-3. We couldn't even score in the 4th when their starters were sipping umbrella drinks on the sidelines. That's what I'm annoyed about.

I kind of agree with Exit here.  We have a Sr QB and Sr Rcvrs, we need to put more points on the board.  Did our OC forget you cand attack the middle of the field? Did he not realize that NU's linebackers were Frosh & Soph?  Too many balls thrown to the outside of the field, too few attacking the middle and short areas.

Someone mentioned our DB's playing a 5 yard cushion.  This isn't a newsflash, they've lined up this way forever.  I bitch and moan about this every season but it never changes.  They line up 5-7 yards off the LOS ALL THE TIME!

Sure we still have hope to win our conference, but if we ever want to reach our goals of moving up to a better conference, it's time to start either winning or being very competitive with these OOC games.

Re: .

Nebraska eats home openers for breakfast.  Yes we played horribly, but I think a close loss would have hurt alot more.  Look at FIU in 2006.  Everyone remembers that year as when they lost every sing game and brawled with Miami.  The truth is they were losing games at the wire and then lost all confidence and discipline because despite their best efforts it wasn't good enough.

They lost to USF by 1 point in tampa, Maryland by 4 points, Middle by 1 point, North Texas by 3.  Switch those game scores around and suddenly FIU looks like a giant killer in 06.  Instead they are remembered for going winless and losing their coach and rebuilding from scratch.

We all knew we weren't going to win, and "competing" means there is a chance of a win.  Losing by 14 or even 7 points would be great for us fans so we can go to UF or FSU fans and be like "look we hung in there with Nebraska" but is it really better for the team?  Lets put our collectively bruised egos aside and think…what is better for this team going into South Carolina, a recognition that they have a long way to go or more ego pumping because they "hung in" with Nebraska.  3 years from now nobody will know the difference, it will be in the L column, its how we come out in the rest of the games that matters.

So lets whoop their asses in practice, get their heads on straight and win some games this season.

And I whole heartedly reject the assertion that our media outlets and or this board were building up our team.  The few people that said we would win were homers, everyone else said we would lose and hoped we would hang in.  Hutton picked us to lose, everyone picked us to lose.  We were all dead right and the offense was disappointing because they played badly.  That doesn't mean we shouldn't expect alot from them, we should.  And they know it.

Re: .

Amazing how we gain a lot of yards, a lot of first downs and win time of possession ata a top 25 BCS team, but we played really badly on offense. Think what it will be like when we don't play badly!

Re: .

Those stats are deceiving…Nebraska started every drive at their own 50 and on a few occasions blew huge TDs…that's why they didn't have as many first downs or yards

Tired of no accountability. Tired of the "starters" not proving themselves. This is a coaching issue.
What happens this week at the Oxley will tell us if we have a repeat of last season.
On to South Carolina.

Re: .

Obviously they are deceiving, look at 49-3 justs tells you that! We ran fairly well and pass protected well, so the O line did it's part. Our vaunted skill positions did not (QB and receivers), and what is with Jason Harmon not starting! The lack of depth and experience on D definately showed in the 2nd half though! Several block in the back not called really hurt though, allowing big play scores, and you are not going to get those calls when you are FAU at Nebraska!
