"What do you mean the team's not in New Orleans?! I paid 50 bucks for this?"
(kidding Smitty, hurry back to fix your mistake before Troy fans start spreading their Boca Community College lame trash verbiage)

Overheard tomorrow morning in the lobby:

Re: UPDATE: students in 'Nawlins
I talked to two prowlers tonight that were up there, they are ready to roll. They both told me everyone is really ready for the game and assume that no one is going to get any sleep tonight!
Smitty; is there any way to get some of those shirts made up for the fans that had to stay back for job reasons?

Why are the students in New Orleans?
That's where all of Troy's bars are.

Re: UPDATE: students in 'Nawlins
UDPATE:
Team arrived at 8:30 p.m. CT to hotel, not 5:30 p.m. Don't know if plane was delayed or they went straight to the field for walkthroughs before going to hotel. prOWLers and students had lobby decorated and made a special sign for coach's door. Alumni reception went well, according to Bobby. Students waited in lobby for 3 hours for team to arrive. After being on a bus for 10 plus hours and very little sleep, I send my thanks and congratulations to all the students who stuck it out to show support for the team.
HEADCOUNT
Only 25 on the bus - 3 of which are non-prOWLers. Could be a number of reasons: $30 hotel stay per person to expensive for people? Classes on Friday? Either way - poor showing of student-support. At last check, the other bus was NOT filled either - but that was at 9am this morning. The other bus is on the road right now, barring any flat tires. They were scheduled to leave at midnight.
TOMORROW
prOWLers and students will be at team hotel at 9am to say their final goodlucks and sign their final fight songs to the team as they board the bus. Then they will follow behind the team buses with police escort and enjoy the alumni tailgate.
SHIRTS:
Thanks for clarification. Phil: don't know where shirts can be picked up.
CHAPERON (spelling?):
Well, the dean of student affairs found out there was no chaperon on the bus with the students. Last year to South Carolina there wasn't either. That's because the chaperon (and/or adviser) flies on the team plane since they have to work the day the prOWLers leave. Dean wasn't too happy, but felt comfortable with the impeccable behavior record of the prOWLers and other student leaders on the trip (Jared Torres for one).
MY FINEST HOUR:
Not one of my finest hours, but I will add this to the list of the OOPS I have had over the years. And that leaves me thinking — what is my greatest OOPS?
FAUOWL09 has a better shot of knowing someone on the bus leaving tonight than I do. Tony and Abe should be on the bus (SG Pres and VP)
NAWLINS!!
I was thinking about making the trip to Nawlins when I wrote this. I had a long discussion with my dad about driving up tonight to be at Troy tomorrow. He brought up a good point.
"Son, I know this means a lot to you. But think of it this way - you have graduated. You have a job and you are working Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You'll be tired for work on Monday. You leave for Boca on Thursday for four days. Then, team willing, you will be in New Orleans for the Bowl game 10 days later. YOu can't go on vacations every five weeks. You made the right decision. The game isn't even on TV so by working during the game, you won't be missing the game either. I have the internet and will update you while you are at work
For those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting Papa $mitty - he's quite a trip. For those of you who haven't, he's me but about six inches taller. Still thinks he is 21 sometimes. He'll be a blast in Nawlins.
anyway off topic. This is my last update because of work tomorrow and then I am going to the Big 12 Championship game. Ted Hutton or Bobby (who reads this blog) might be able to give better perspective tomorrow.
