UPDATED: Coach's Comments from Sunday Night 11/14

Not so good  news on the injury front, two defensive starters, cornerback Tavious Polo and linebacker Randell Johnson are both in a “state of flux” according to coach.

Johnson was in a lot of pain with a back injury and spent the night in the hospital. He is awaiting another test before he can be released tonight or tomorrow morning. Polo is being evaluated day-to-day with a head injury.

The Owls win last night marked the third straight win, but coach thinks that the game could have been played better.

“Part of the game was the best football we played and part of it was some of the worst we played,” Schnellenberger said.

The one-point victory was the third win this season by a single point, and coach says the team understands what is left for the remainder of the season.

“We’re surely happy that we have been able to put three wins in a row. They (the team) certainly aren’t ecstatic about their play, but there ecstatic about their results. It has put us in a situation where we still have other battles to fight, other meaningful battles to fight.”

The next battle comes on the road against a struggling Texas team. Last time the Owls faced the Longhorns, Schnellenberger felt pretty confident heading into the matchup, this time however he is thinking a little differently.

“I think we’re going to play one of the finest football programs that there is in this country, one that has been flawless for all the years that their coach has been down there. It’s just unfortunate they have hit a rough road.”

“There is a mighty small difference between being 10-0 and being 1-5. I mean there is a great difference when you look at it, but in actuality it doesn’t have to be a lot different.”

Re: Coach's Comments from Sunday Night 11/14

Per FAU Johnson sustained three spinal bone cracks and is done for the regular season. However, he will likely return if the Owls can land a Bowl birth.

The bones affected are those of the two small extensions that lie on the outside of the spinal vertabrae.

Polo is listed as day to day, and "50-50" for Saturday.

Per FAU, Polo is traveling to Texas, so that is a positive sign...why go if you have no chance of playing?
