Way too early Predictions 2008

Like some one said early, I just want to improve from last years recored.  We need to win the belt by beating conference opponents by a bigger margin than last year.  I'm very worried about two teams in the Sun belt, Troy and W.K.  The winnable non conference games should be UAB and Minn.  We should see a better team than last year though.

Not only do I want to see us improve on 7-5, I want us to beat teams solidly.  If we do that, everything else should take care of itself.

Is WKU that good?

I really dont know much about them. Were they that good of a Div 1 AA school? I know they have a solid basketball team, but Ive never heard much about thier football team. Other then the "trap" aspect I dont understand how this could be a major concern?

TROY, NT and MTSU Make me nervous. TROY and the Muts want revenge for losses, and NT is just gonna be an offensive Juggernaut.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Very good.

2002 they won the NCAA Division I-AA

The Hilltopper football team won eight Ohio Valley Conference titles before beginning competition as an independent beginning in 1982.

WKU football has produced 17 first-team All-Americans, competed in the NCAA playoffs eight times, won two bowl championships (the Refrigerator Bowl in 1952 and the Tangerine Bowl in 1963), and has finished the year ranked among the nation's leaders in the polls on 15 occasions.

Ok, So the History is obviously there, but there is still a big jump from 1AA to 1A, though we know it IS attainable to be succesfull by our own success. Ill try and research a bit for what they did last year. I still cant imagine that this game is a major concern other then taking them lightly and not prepareing.

With Troy, NT, MTSU, and ULM I feel you can prepare, work hard, play well and STILL loose.

I dont get that feeling from WKU.

Re: Way too early Predictions 2008

Here's what I found… they scored 50+ points three times, including an 87-0 win second week of the season.

They beat MTSU, lost to Troy 21-17, lost to UNT by a point.

Their RB nearly rushed for 1,200 yards last season (Junior, returning).

Seems they run a 2 QB system with a true freshman and a junior.

Defense… allowed 34 TD's, finished with 20 INTS. Lose their best tackler, he had 103 total tackles a year ago.

Re: Way too early Predictions 2008

I think there are three things we need to accomplish in 08:

1.  Dominate at least a few games in our conference

2.  Win our conference.

3.  Win whatever bowl game we get into, most likely N.O.

These are very important because it will show that we have staying power, and last year was not a fluke.  Winning OOC games would be great, but I still think at this point it is much better for the program to dominate the SBC.  Reason for this is that this year we will basically have the same team, but after that, we will start losing people.  I would like to think we have some new talent coming in, but we have something good now, and we need it to keep working.

Agreed duder.

The implications of winning the conference and NO bowl in back to back years will be huge for FAU.

So let's strive for that.

Western Kentucky is a very good ball club. They were top of the heap in arguably on of the top 2 1-AA conferences over the past 5-6 years. They will win in a hurry in the SBC.

Re: Way too early Predictions 2008

WKU has  junior college and I-A transfer team. Troy - with a hurt Omar - really played down to them last season, after almost beating Georgia the week before. The Troy defense pulled it out.

I seem to remember their QB throwing long.

It was WKU's Homecoming (I think) and the house (at least the half that was built) was packed.

WKU should have another surprisingly decent year and then face the drop-off that FAU endured and FIU continues to suffer.
