Way too early Predictions 2008

I love Troy, don't get me wrong, but why is everyone so worried? You guys beat us on the road after two other road games…a feat unimaginable. You guys have us at home. I don't think we're going to the the power we were last year. I think 2009 is TROY's breakout year; we'll be stacked. Fine recruiting will finally pay off. I don't believe in the revenge factor. MTSU was 6-0 in the sunbelt going into their last game in 2006. Up until the last 2 minutes of the game, they were SURE they were going to New Orleans. I was there. With 3:33 left on the clock in the 4th, the score was 20-7, MTSU. They were opening boxes of Mardi Gras Beads and waving them over the band. We won the game 21-20; it gave us the New Orleans bowl bid. They put the beads back in the boxes. The looks on their faces were priceless, much like what ours probably looked like when Omar couldn't get that final 4th down converted. MTSU fell to 6-1 in sunbelt play and we went on the beat Rice in the New Orleans Bowl, 41-17. All this, and we STILL beat them 45-7 in 2007. I've been telling everyone, if you guys loose to someone, it will probably be to some other sunbelt power.

My Way Too Early Prediction: FAU, 31-24.

I just think that we've always had trouble with Troy, yeah Omar has been there but we beat you guys 1x and it took a good defensive play to earn that victory. Not sure how Troy fans feel but I know a lot of FAU fans want Troy to move up with us whether it be C-USA in the next 4-5 years or the Big East in 10. This is the start of a good rivalry and I hope it continues to stay that way

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

To tell you the truth, I really like you guys. Common sense would say otherwise after what happened in the finale for Troy. For some reason, I don't have that spite towards you guys like I do toward MTSU and some other SBC Teams. I have an alternative to the CUSA theory. In my opinion, this year is the Sunbelt's Breakout Year. If not this year, then definately next year. Many SBC Teams are renovating the stadiums and campuses. If you thought recruiting was good this year in the belt, wait a few years. The Sunbelt is the place the be. We will be better than CUSA, WAC, and MAC soon. We might be better now. I just have a gut feeling about this conference. Troy, FAU, and UNT all have the coaches to make things happen. The other SBC teams are getting better. Our Campuses are growing, we're attracting more students to our campuses. We're getting better athletes. Our colleges are in the best positions to recruit, much like the SEC. There's no reason the SBC can't be a Top 5 conference in 10 years or at least the top non-bcs conference.

Re: Way too early Predictions 2008

While I echo the sentiments of our Trojan ?friend? lol, I can't help but know that the belt will never matter as much in the overall canvass that is college football as long as it only has one bowl bid. Additionally, its teams need to perform better against out of conference opponents on a regular basis. Not just BCS teams that are at the bottom of their conferences but also the better non-BCS teams. Facilities and recruiting matter of course but the belt will continually be looked down upon until these things happen.

Re: Way too early Predictions 2008

Troytrojan,

I think you have made some very valid points, especially being from an opposing team.  As someone said before, it's not dependent on how "good" Troy is next year, it's that we have a history together.  I think our rivalry is much better than the FAU FIU rivalry.  Granted your record against is better, but the last couple of years when we were on a good run or having a good season, it seems that Troy always stopped our momentum.  Maybe it's just because we always played at the end of the season, but it seemed that our year depended on that game every year.

I also agree that in a few years, the SBC can become a better recognized conference.  We can talk all we want, but reallistically we are not moving up to another conference for quite a while, and I would rather it that way.  Let's build up a good foundation in the SBC and have some good years, before we get thrown to the lions in a major conference and have 4 years of getting our butts handed to us.  I think in the coming years the SBC will get more recognition, and every year they add like 10 new bowls, so we will get more bids.  As you said, we have a lot of coaching talent in the conference, and we are all recruiting more and better players.  Sooner or later prospects will see that they can sit the bench in the SEC, or be a superstar in the SBC. Do you want to play or not?
